Crying Dog !
« on: September 30, 2004, 05:23:08 PM »
Hi all,

My wife and I tend to only leave Meg at the most for 4 hours when we work, then one of us will return at lunch to let her have a stretch etc.

My neighbour has told me that lately Meg has been crying!! Something we had a fear of, but have not be able to check.

Has anyone got any ideas of how to settle a dog when you’re not in the house or around for a period of time.......

Thanks for any help
Marc, Lucy and noisy meg !

Hello :)

How old is Meg? If she's only a baby 4 hours is quite a long time to be on her own.
I don't work but if I have to leave them for more than a couple of hour's I tend to take them for a big romp, so they are very tired and sleep while I'm gone.

Would there be a chance you could ask someone else to go in during the day, to play with her, maybe take her out for a walk?

If she is very upset maybe a doggy creche could be considered. Sometime's we forget that they are pack animal's and need to be with someone! ;)

Obvious question this but do you leave a radio or CD on while you are out?  We've found that this helps to soothe Woody although admittedly the most we have ever left him for was three hours and it's generally never more than two and usually only a couple of times a week.

have you tried putting in a worn t-shirt of yours to comfort her so she can smell your scent on it, that sometimes works.

When you say this 'have you tried putting in a worn t-shirt of yours to comfort her' do you mean on her or somewhere else.

I'd agree with leaving a radio on at a fair volume  :)

Funny   - i have visions of a cocker wadeing round in a huge t-shirt!!!!!  ;)

In her bed should be good enough - a bit like a comfort blanket.
