transporting cockers on cycle rides

Does anyone have any ideas of the best way to transport cockers on a long cycle ride? We feel to have a dog running alongside a cycle would be obviously dangerous.
thanks for any advice.

On the new rogues gallery on the second page, there is a picture of my two boys in their follower. They enjoy the rides to the woods.

I can recommend that, but make sure that you fasten your dog to the follower, so that they can't jump out of it.  :D

Hi,
We took Tia for a long ride this weekend. We have been keen on a bike trailer for some time, and the cheapest new one I have found is on http://gaytoncyclehire.co.uk/index2.asp. It's a child carrier, but converts into a buggy so you can push your stuff around when the bikes are parked! :)
This weekend we hired a dog trailer, and Tia cried and cried.   She had been hit by a bike at Easter so we were determined that she shouldn't run along. Apart from this, her brakes go on every time she sniffs something good (every blade of grass it seems!!) so we wouldn't have got anywhere.
We got such looks from people as we went along.       She was secured in (as was recommended above), and although we praised her, gave treats etc (the way we'd got her used to the car) she just kept crying.
I felt obliged to explain ourselves to everyone we met, and were told in stage whispers we were being cruel.
At the end of the 14 miles, I suggested she should be allowed to walk with close supervision. She got out, had a sniff, hopped back in, not a peep, and when we tried to give the trailer back kept getting back in as happy as could be.
Talk about perverse!

The first year our Joep sounds like a seal  , but always wagging his tail  :?   But since we have Joris it's allright. He makes no sound anymore
