Dragging His Bottom!
« on: July 25, 2005, 08:37:37 AM »
Merlin is 12 months old and he is fed on Beta pet maintenance complete food with occasional titbits. This weekend I caught him dragging his bottom. He only did it once and I've not seen him doing it since.
Does this mean his anal glands need looking at or is that only if he's doing it repeatedly?
Should I just keep an eye on it and perhaps add/remove something from his diet. Any advice would be appreciated.

Bailey does this sometimes, but he only does it to wipe his bottom after he's been *cough* pooping and he wants to wipe off the rest.

If its only been the once I wouldnt worry, probably had a bit of poo stuck and was wiping himself or he had a bit of a runny bum and so was cleaning himself.

If its a constant then check for worms. Worms make their bums itchy so if he hasnt been wormed for a while that may be it. If you can rule out worms then it probably is his anal glands.

Thanks for the replies all. I think I'll just keep an eye on him for a couple of weeks. He's due a worming but I don't think he's suffering with them at the mo. His poos are Ok as well. Thanks again for the help.
