New Puppy ....
« on: February 15, 2004, 08:03:45 PM »
Well, we went to see the puppies yesterday, and were kindly offered the pick of the bitches from the litter. We picked this cheeky mite ...

We think we'll call her Maggie ... anyone else any good names for her?

We get to pick her up on 27th Feb .. and are so excited, poor Millie can't go for a walk now until 'Maggie' is fully vaccinated - she had her final run tday, and boy did she make the most of the muddy puddles, just as if she knew!

She's lovely Kelly :) Maggie's a nice name but you might find it easier if you come up with something that sounds nothing like "Millie", perhaps something that ends in an "..a" rather than an "..ie"? I'm sure you will get plenty of suggestions :)

Congratulations Kelly, she looks a sweet little thing ! :D

Boy are you in for some fun and games, the culture shock of owning a puppy again...... Millie will suddenly appear like the best trained dog ever in comparison. I'm not trying to put you off, it's great fun, but needing to have eyes in the back of your head again will seem strange at first. I'm envious.

I've got no suggestions for a name I'm afraid.

She is well cute Kelly!  From Emma's list, I like the name Sasha best.

I can only echo Colin's comments.  He got Misty not long after I had got Georgia and we used to compare notes!  I had forgotten what having a puppy was like, both the fun moments and the frustrating ones too!  :?

Let us know what name you decide on.

She's soooooo beautiful - your sooooo lucky - i'm soooooo jealous!!

We'd so love a companion for Blue but as he's only 11 months old we've a while to wait yet :(  anyway the name we would pick WHEN we finally get our little playmate for Blue is Cuddle,

We thought of this name because hopefully every time we called him thats exactly what we would get - a big cuddle!!

What i would do at the end of the day is  leave it to fate!! - choose the names that you think would best suit and pick one from a hat and whichever one it is is the one thats meant to be. x

Curious to know why you can't take both for a walk. I used to carry Wilf around in a pouch socializing him while I took Ruby for a walk. We went everywhere so Ruby didn't miss out and Wilf experienced everything he should until he could be let down for his 1st proper walk. Too many people don't socialize their pups enough and it becomes a shock when they go for their 1st walk and are quite scared of the big wide world. My two were as confident as anything on their 1st proper walk.

Me too with Misty, but without the pouch  . I tried to alternate between taking her out and leaving her at home, to get her used to being alone. In the park I found other dog owners were fighting to have a go at carrying Misty, which was good for socialisation too. :D This meant I could still give Jimmy loads of attention and he didn't get jealous of the new pup.

If you are concerned about the new pup catching something from Millie, couldn't you wash Millie's paws when you get home ?

I alternated it as well because as you say Colin they need to get used to being on their own as well. Thing is if you want to go as far as no bugs then you could go the extreme of washing your own shoes as you'll bring stuff in as well. To be honest a few bugs aren't too bad a thing as long as you're careful. You need to introduce to other dogs you know have been vaccinated as well a soon as possible as this is really the critical period of socializing.

I know what you mean about others wanting to carry the pup around. When I had Ruby as a pup she was kidnapped in the bank by the clerk who 'made off' with her and showed her round the office of the local Barclays leaving a queue of customers waiting (they thought it was as hilarious as I did thankfully—this branch are great fans of blue roans)
