Am I lucky or are some cocker puppies real good?
« on: May 16, 2004, 10:49:35 PM »
My puppy cocker "Nelson" is 13 weeks old now and I must say he is a real star.
a) No sleepless nights B) only 3 accidents in his crate ( apart from wee's )
c) Bites me but not the kids d) eats beta as if its going out of fashion

Just a few notes to let anyone interested know how our new lad is doing.

The one thing that does alarm me is that he seems to want to hump anything that stands still long enough! Surely a pup can not have sexual desires at 13weeks??????

Comments please.

Regards

My Kukka was a very easy and wellbehaved pup until she turned 5 months and disaster struck    .

So you just wait ;)..

( Oh and I would say that with pups humping is mostly dominating.)
There's only one, -but that one is a lion

Mounting behaviour in young puppies is completely normal - it can be "dominant" behaviour but often it just happens when a pup gets over-excited. The best thing to do is to completely ignore the humping - if you make a big thing of it, it can just increase the puppy's excitement, specially if you physically push the puppy away. Far better to not react at all or to distract the pup with a toy or something.

We tried the distraction thing, but instead he starts humping whatever we give him!!

You name it, he gets it-blankets, toys, shoes etc....although he oddly only humps my hubbies leg, leaves me and my daughter well alone!!!

At 13 weeks then he's got plenty of time to be naughty like the rest of them
