Oscar was not a happy puppy this morning,  :(  no food or water. He was sitting at the kitchen door waiting for his food.   When we got to the vets he did not want me to leave, it breaks your heart. Got to ring them at 1 to see how he is and when I can pick him up. Got a nice bit of steak as a treat for him tonight, try and get back in his good books.  :D

Nothing showed up on the x-rays, :o  Oscar is going to be referred to an orthopaedic to see if they can find anything. Pet insurance is a god send, with his tablets and x-rays today it was £170. :(  Will let  you know more when i do. Oscar is ok, we have just been for a walk and gave him some food, we have got a nice bit of steak for him later.

that is a pitty that they didn't see anything. Now you have to wait a little bit longer. I hope for you that it will not last long to see an orthopedic

Well Oscar has been to another Vets in St Helens for more x-rays. After starving him again we dropped him of for the x-rays. We went back to the vets in the evening to pick up Oscar and see if they have found out what the problem is. The Vet who had seen to Oscar was very helpful and spent quite a bit of time explaining what they had found. He showed us the x-rays and he had some legs bones so that he could show us what the problem was. He pointed out that the joint at the top on the leg had not formed completely. The ball is ok but the bit where it sits in has not completely formed, this is what holds the leg in lateral position, well not holds it. He says that the mussels hold it in place, so we have to work on building up his mussels.
He says that this is not a big problem as says that it is not causing Oscar any pain. He has told us it is ok for Oscar to be walked normally as the limping is caused by fluid in the joint; this is there to help lubricate the joint.

So it looks like all should be ok apart for the limping after walks, so as a treat we took him to the beach at Formby. The weather was great and Oscar spent most of the day digging in the sand and also trying not to get his feet wet. He looked like one of those people who stand by the water, but as soon as a wave comes in they run backwards.

He only limped a bit when we got home and a couple of hrs later all was ok. This is great news as we are going to Scotland in October and it means Oscar is OK to do some walking.  :D  :D  :D

I am so glad that you have finally got to the bottom of Oscar's limp. I am sure with careful walking he will be fine.

Judging by the picture, it looks as if he had a wonderful time in the sand.  :D

What about hydrotherapy, that's pretty good at helping dogs build up muscles

Bless him, I'm glad it's going to be ok.

I'd ask the vet about anything you can do diet wise to promote muscle growth, I know in humans high protein can help, wonder if it's the same in doggies?
