The only thing I've heard is the "chocolate naughty gene" lol - some people swear that solid chocolates of any breed (labs, cockers, GSP's) are more naughty than parti colours !

Hi,  I had not heard this.  I imagine it is difficult to "spot" as quite often puppies will have a bit of dandruff.  I have a chocolate roan and tan and also a blue roan and one does not appear to itch more than the other!

When we buy a puppy, we also look out for socialisation.  How often do the puppies interact with other dogs and humans?  Have they been let outside at all and are they introduced to everyday sounds ie., washing machines, hoovers, telly etc.... it really does help if they have had some experience of all these things before they come to you.

Also, ask to see mum and dad, you should be able to see at least one of them.
Might be worth asking to see paperwork for eye tests etc - when I bought my latest puppy I asked if they dogs had been eye tested and was told Yes.  When I got the KC registration, only dad had been tested.  Maybe I was not specific enough!

Hope this is the kind of info that will be of help - enjoy looking at and chosing a puppy, it is such fun!  :)

If it's show-type Cockers you're looking at, the coats can often be softer & fluffier in the livers & very prone to sun-bleaching but I haven't heard of any particular skin problems with this colour. Do be careful though as there are very few reputable breeders who produce solid livers (show-type) but there are a lot of commercial breeders who have seized on this colour's current popularity with puppy buying public ;)
