Help/advice needed please - Indie has eaten a mars bar
« on: June 16, 2004, 12:01:56 PM »
about half of a kingsize one, which equates to about two thirds of a normal one. Harry had left it sitting on the table despite being told time and time again.

Should I book an appt at the vets or just keep an ye on him - anyone know what to look for?

I'm so worried and cross too, silly kids

Hi Shona, Indie should be just fine   I read an article that said although chocolate id toxic to dogs they would have to eat quite a bit of it to cause a reaction :D

Here is the link if you would like some reassurance Shona

Thanks for that link Maria, it was quite reassuring to read that a tiny amount should'nt do any harm, it's one of my dreads, with having 4 sons there is always chocolate around!!

Shona, I also think Indie will be fine, ( I think dark chocolate is worse ? )
you could mention it at work maybe!

He should be fine - just keep a watch for any adverse behaviour/reaction. Although it can be dangerous if you have a very sensitive dog - chances are it won't be a problem. :)

for the record, Millie has in the past pinched and eaten 3/4 of a plain Terry's chocolate orange - much to my horror, and tristian's annoyance   I told him not to leave it out!
I was mortified, and desperate to take her to the vets (it was the sunday after christmas, they would have had a field day with the bill) but we left her as she seemed ok, went a bit hyper later on, and then seemed to have a chocolate hangover  and a bit of an upset tum the following day - but she got chicken and rice out of it, so I doubt she minded!

Anyway, obviously I don't condone feeding your dogs this amount of plain chcolate, however Millie was pretty much OK with it... so I wouldn't panic too much unless he starts showing signs of poisoning, such as lethargy, vomiting etc.

As a puppy willow scoffed an entire box of belgium chocs!!! She bloated like a balloon and chucked it all up!!!Yum

The vet was only concerned about the dark chocolate as it is the cocoa in this which is toxic.

She was fine - green but fine!

Benki stole a massive part of a chocolate birthday cake a few weeks ago and was very sick in the night.his body rejected it thank goodness. He is always stealing from the table and the bin and we have to watch him carefully. The other day he stole a massive bit of madeirs cake and ate the wrapping(not the outside wrapping but the paper type that cakes are sometimes cooked in.He has done some sloppy poos since then and has now gone back to normal. What do you do with them eh????
