Liver cake
« on: December 05, 2003, 10:53:26 PM »
Hi everyone. I wonder if you can help me. Some time ago I remember reading about a liver cake recipe on here somewhere :?: From what I remember a lot of cocker owners raved over it. Does anybody have the recipe :?: It's just that it is Sally's first birthday on Monday and we wanted to bake her a cake for the occasion, bless her cotton socks:D Also, does anybody know the website address where we can buy Nutro dog food :?: I keep meaning to give it a try but have lost the address.

Hi Allison

Here's an old thread with the recipe for liver cake :http://www.cockersonline.co.uk/forum/viewt...opic.php?t=1222

Nutro's website is at www.nutro.co.uk

Pammy posted this liver cake recipe on here first and I gave it a go for Lotties first birthday that coincided with the south/west cocker meet 8)

Make sure all doors and windows are open as it's foul smelling!!

So, a tip for anyone wanting to make any is make as much as you can in one go so that you don't have to suffer it too often (luckily, I made double the recipe). I shall follow Pammys tip from an old thread .... cut some into small treats and pop back into the oven to crispen and put them in an airtight container, nice one Pammy ;)

8oz lamb liver
4oz SR flour
2 eggs
2 cloves of garlic

Place all ingredients into a blender and blend until smooth, pink and runny (or not so much if require chunkier). Pour into greased swiss roll tin and put in the oven Gas 4 for 30-40 minutes. Leave to cool and cut into bite size pieces.

I usually make double the quantity so as not to suffer the smell too often.  I cut it up into small pieces and freeze it and then take out a hand full when required

Good luck!!!...and happy birthday to Sally for Monday

The nutro website is:

http://www.nutro.co.uk

Have you asked at your local petshop as they can get stuff in for you and sometimes deliver if need be (mine does).

True but if you contact Nutro direct on their free phone number, they will deliver the next day (as long as you ring before 12pm) - you can't beat that for service :)

I've been banned for even cooking liver in our house, as it makes Pat feel physically sick  so if I told him I was cooking a liver cake I think he would leave home

I still haven't been brave enough to try baking liver cake yet  :? I know you can buy the freeze dried liver treats....are they any good i think the website was Crosskeys???. I know its a poor substitute for the real thing...but i think my kids would leave home if I even attempted to make liver cake......  right i'm off to make a big batch right now    :D  :D
