Update On Bella
« on: June 10, 2005, 02:47:22 PM »
well she continued in much the same way as this morning, resting a lot, trying to poo but not much coming out.

I took her to my mum's to see if that perked her up and it did for about 30 mins then she got back in her bed, my dad popped in for lunch and she did get out of her bed to say hello but soon got back in.

I rang the vet to see what they said and they thought she might have constipation and suggested giving her tuna or liquid paraffin to shift it.

I was just about to go to the chemist to get some liquid paraffin and she was sick :( bless her little heart. So I rang the vet again and they said to bring her in.

She was sick again a while later and again in the car on the way to the vet, I felt so sorry for her that it made me cry!

Anyway, the vet said her temperature is high but her tummy felt fine so she thinks it's gasturentitis (? don't know how to spell it) and has given her an antibiotic injection and an anti-vomiting injection, she also gave us some hydration powder to put in her water and we've got to go back at 9.10 tomorrow and see how she is in between.

Bless her little heart, she's now tucked up in her crate with her teddy

Awwww poor little soul. I hope she feels better soon. Libby was a bit under the weather after her visit to the vets today for her 2nd jab and microchip but she's perked up now. let us know how she is tomorrow.

Also, lactulose (from chemist or vet) is useful for constipation and more palatable than liquid parafin (its basically a syrup) and always recommended by my vets (and you can also use it in humans if need be!)

thanks for all your kind words :)

the vet suggested we didn't feed Bella this evening but to offer her breakfast and see how she went but she was looking for food earlier so we gave her a small handful and she ate it all (a good sign as far as I can tell as she wouldn't touch anything this morning) and soon after she seemed to perk up. She hasn't been sick again (touch wood) and has been out twice to the loo but only wee'd, hasn't even tried to poo so it does seem like she's getting better :)

I thought I'd give her a little brush when she started to perk up and she started trying to crocodile me and chew the brush so I think she must be feeling a bit better ;)

fingers crossed she'll feel herself in the morning

I was beginning to panic a little as my brother is getting married tomorrow afternoon

I'm not convinced that she was constipated in the end, I think it was more sickness/diarhoea but it's useful to bear these things in mind for the future ;)

My mum said the rehydration powder the vet gave us is the same they give to babies too! She seems to like it anyway, as she laps it up! Either that or she likes the really cold water as you have to keep it in the fridge and just offer it to her every half hour or so, whatever's in there makes her fur sticky though! (all round her mouth and then on her feet/back where she's been licking  ) ) I think someone will be having a bath when she feels better......

I agree Lactulose is a great product, we always have a bottle here  ;)  Could the re-hydration powder be Diarolite???
