Lip Fold Op
« on: February 10, 2006, 01:46:28 PM »
I can't put it off any longer - Dallas will have to have the op    He has not long finished a 3 week course of antibiotics and today, its back with a vengeance :(  I'm going to book him in for a week on Wednesday so that I can take the day off.  No doubt I'll be told to bring him in as late as possible and take him home as soon as he opens his eyes     He makes an awful lot of noise for such a little dog

Poor Dallas, I am sure this is the right way forward if he is suffering so much with it  ;) Fingers crossed he will have gorgeous kissable lips soon  :D

I've been meaning to post about Tilly's lipfold op since she had it done just over two weeks ago. :)
Like Pammy just said - she is a different dog  :D - honestly its like having a 2 yr old dog instead of a nearly 8 yr old. She is bombing around like a loony - has stopped rubbing her face all the time, and is no longer scratching at it like mad...
I stayed with her for the pre-med, then they took her in straight away, did the op and I picked her up about 5 hours later - with lampshade.... to be honest that was the most upsetting part about it all - she was very very disturbed by having to wear it, especially for the first 48 hrs....
She had dissolvable stitches on both sides of her mouth, two weeks on they are still slightly there.... she wore the lampshade for 7 days apart from when I took her out for walks (on lead) then I took it off as she got out the car, and put it back on when she got back in the car.... I had to obviously be very vigilant that she didn't dive onto the ground to rub her face - she did try that a few times !!!
I wish I had done it sooner - her eyes are brighter, there are no more bloodshot rims, she looks younger, and she is generally just so much happier. :)

That's great news about Tilly Penel - hopefully Dallas will be the same, poor guy, if he's just off the antibiotics and it's back, I'm sure it will be better to surgically sort it.

Dallas had the op this morning and it all went well. I took him in at 10.30 and he was back home at 12.35 ph34r. He is stumbling about crying but refuses to lie down ::) I must say that the locum vet who did the surgery has made a very neat job of it - I was expecting him to look like Frankenstein's monster :o  He has been given another course of antibiotics, had dissolvable stitches put in and his teeth were polished. So hopefully once he is over this, then no more smelly mouth :-*

Only just seen this thread Gill ::)

Gald it went well and let's hope he can relax a bit and get a bit of shut-eye this afternoon ;)  Lottie needs her booster so I'm gonna get her glands emptied at the same time as her breath smells and she's scooting along the rugs ph34r
