I am not sure why, but my first thought is that this might be an auto immune condition.

Unfortunately if it is, many vets have very little or no knowledge about it, I gather.

It might be worth looking into though if they don't come up with another definite diagnosis.

This is exactly was I was thinking....the AI bleeding disorder I was thinking of is Autoimmune thrombocytopenia? has your vet said whether Bailey is anaemic?....I am probably totally wrong but would be worth mentioning to your vet...there is loads on Auto Immune disorders if you google

Here is a site that explains most AI disorders

http://www.provet.co.uk/petfacts/healthtips/autoimmunedisease.htm

Like I say I am probably totally wrong but may be worth looking into.

I hope you find out the cause soon, take care and thinking of you and Bailey xxx :-* :luv:

Am so sorry to hear this :-\

I had a 6 yr old cocker with similar symptoms that was diagnosed with a possible AI - although it was never properly confirmed. Depending on which AI condition it is, steroids are/can be used to try and control it and if successful some dogs may stay on low levels of steroids after this for the rest of their life. However, testing for AI conditions is still very hit and miss and test results can be inconclusive. I really hope they get to the bottom of it and find something that starts to work quickly for him.. Lots of healing thoughts and thinking of you lots  :-*

Just to add - if it does turn out to be an AI disorder there is a  Yahoo forum run by Penel and Jo Tucker called CIMDA.  Everyone on that site knows vast amounts of knowledge on AI disorders and will give you all the support and information you need.....we will never know for sure if our Fenn had AI anaemia...she was given steroids and thankfully all is well now...but when I had questions they were brilliant and because they have either had dogs or have dogs going through the same thing it was a great support.

Again...I can't stress enough I am probably totally wrong and don't want to scare you but want you to know we are all here if you need to talk  :-* x

Also check out Addison's Disease - the blood in the trachea sounds similar to what I read about somewhere else.

Thank you all for your love and best wishes.......I'm sure positive energy helps.

Bailey is doing really well, and thankfully recovering.

The hospital found he had infected lymph glands throughout his system, this was responsible for the strange and wide ranging symptoms.

We almost lost him 3 times....but it looks like he made it!

Thank you all again.

Hugs to all these lovely dogs...xxx
