Cough Cough
« on: August 09, 2004, 08:33:37 AM »
Hi everyone I am a little worried this morning as Sally kepps coughing, it sounds like she wants to wrench like she is going to be sick and ends up sounding like a sneeze. She has done it about 20 times so far, could she of caught kennel cough off another dog, she has not been to the kennels ?? I await your replys :?

It could well be kennel cough. Kennel cough often sounds initially as if the dog has something stuck in their throat & is trying to get it up - is this what Sally is doing? Dogs don't have to have been in kennels to catch the dreaded cough - its easily passed from dog to dog by normal, every day contact. Have a look at some of the past threads on kennel cough for tips - honey is good for soothing throats & Benylin (small doses) is also helpful. Veterinary treatment is not usually needed but if you do feel you need to take Sally to the vet, wait outside with her as you don't want her to pass the cough on to other dogs waiting inside.
