Famous Kennel Names For Working Cockers?
« on: November 15, 2005, 10:58:07 AM »
Hi guys,
I was just wondering what kennel names which you might find in a working cockers pedigree are considered to be good quality lines. What names are generally considered to be good old working lines?

I'm guessing that the thing that defines a good line is the number of FT CH in it? Or are there specific dogs that are looked for in a dogs pedigree which confirm good working ability?

Are there any dogs known to have genetic health issues or specific lines which produce poor pups etc...

I don't know whether or not these are cheeky questions to ask    but I'm just very curious about working cocker pedigrees  :)

Best wishes Mary

PS: you can PM me with your opinions if you don't want to post publicly in case of offending someone.

Jade of Livermere is one of the most prolific sires and consistently produces excellent puppies which is why he is in most cocker pedigree's,also Jasper of Parkbreck
Mike Smiths book on Working cockers and Springers has vast info on the good lines in cockers and is a great start for anyone wishing to research their cockers pedigree.
One thing to remember is that alot of cockers might not ne FTCH but that doesn't mean they aren't cracking working dogs, it just means they aren't trialled, however if there are very few FTCH in a pedigree there is no guarantee of working ability.
also I like Sealpin - Edward Martin's and Mailscot, which are Mike Smith's.
Health wise I know that Janices Rufus has allergy problems which are quite new in working cockers so it might be something to start considering, as with any breed popularity does not do the health any good at all.

Freya and Cockers Bilbo and Dobbie, not forgetting the Springers Willow and Paddy

Thankyou for all the replies  :)  I will try and get hold of that book, it sounds great!

I have another query! What does CH FT CH and FT CH FT CH mean when they're written before the names of dogs in the pedigree?
I know that just FT CH means a Field Trial champion.

What do people know about these names:

Anahar
Tayburn Cockle
Laighpark
Craig felin
Rowston
Jordieland
Rigfoot teal
Bournepark

Best wishes Mary  :)

Fantastic!  :D  Just bought the book on ebay for £19, not too bad for a hard back book on two specific breeds. It was the only one on ebay and I couldn't find it on amazon either. Is is usually widely available?

Best wishes Mary

PS: Kirtsen have you got any more wonderful suggestions of possible boyfriends for my Bella? I've been wondering whether FT CH Chyknell Gold Star would be a good candidate or not? and how much should I expect to pay for a quality stud to sire some pups?  :)

Hiya, how good is this book:  :)

'THE COCKER MAN by Hedley Millington'

"A book on breeding and training cocker spaniels. With observations, tips and advice from the author"

Any specific knowledge on the breed line names that I listed in one of my previous posts would be great. Am I right in thinking that Jordieland is an old line?

Best wishes Mary  :)

Hi Nicola, I think I'm going to sneakily give Mike's book as a christmas present to an unsuspecting member of the family    I now know what I'll be readng for Christams  ;)

Best wishes Mary

PS: Thanks for offering help concerning stud dogs, at the moment I'm rather keen on FT CH Gusty Silvan because he's beautiful, gold and white and shares similar lines to Bella. What colour pups do you think I'd get by breeding two gold and whites with parti colour genes in them together? Both Bellas parents where black, but further back in her pedigree there are Lemon and white dogs, liver, black and white etc.. do you think a mixture of coloured pups would be the result? or will a dominant colour mask the parti colour?
