Hello Emma
Murphy has been beating with me on game shots since he was about 2 years old.
He is 9 on monday, unfortunately I don't think he will be going again next season as he has some sort of growth/infection in his sinuses which he has had two operations on and weeks & weeks of antibiotics and it seems as though it cannot be cured. He keeps comfortable on 2 pain killers a day and hopefully he will be with me for a good while longer. He was my second go at training a gun dog, I trained his half brother Badger and they were both good in the field, but not good enough for Field Trails, although I did enter Badger in a couple of working tests.
(not on live game).

Spud would have made an excellent worker as he is very hard going and strong
(he is the largest cocker I have seen) and his father was a FTCH, but we did not get him untill he was 4. and he had been kept as a pet and not trained as a worker
(he had not been let of the lead for 3 years). However we love him to bits and he has trained up really well, he will be 5 in June.

Best wishes
wendy

Hi Wendy,

Sorry to her about Murphy not going out next season, but as long as he continues to enjoy life!

Harry is 8 months - and with the right hand i think he could be a good worker, at least he does everything our gundog trainer tells him too and he seems to approve!! I am not always strict enough with him though.

i think i would like to see how far we can go- if it is something we just do to keep his brain occupied or will go further, but i guess that comes to my time and not just the dog. I will not work him myself, im afraid i've taken him from kennels in the New forest to a central heated house in the midde of an estate where i work from home :D !! we're on the edge of the forest though so plenty of walks etc.

its good to hear that even at 4 years old they can still be trained to work coming from his background.

Best of luck with them both, particularly murphy
Emma

Our Buddy's mum is half field:

He has Housty Solo, Maesydderwen Jackdaw, and Winton Wildfowl in his line, so he has a few relatives on here!

Any idea why they would have mixed like that? He has some good names on the cocker side too!

We don't mind, we love him anyway. We were told that his ears would probably be too high for showing (which we never wanted to do anyway) but they seem low to me.

Not sure about mixing show strain and working strain Annette - I guess they are trying to get the best of both worlds.

I'm considering taking Hattie to gundog training too - I think she would love it, as long as its all using dummies - am not keen to encourage her latest hobby !

Hello

Your Hattie's pedigree has alot of Spuds relations in it. Jade of Livermere certainly got about!.

Gundog training is all on dummies as are Gundog tests .

I am sure both you and Hattie will enjoy it if you go.
