I Bought A Paddling Pool Today
« on: July 15, 2005, 09:51:12 PM »
I got the £3.99 one from Superdrug in the end, blew all 3 rings up and Bella promptly bit the top one <_<

BUT

she has had a lovely time today playing in it, in fact every time we let her out for a wee she gets in it again little monkey and I have to keep drying her

next door's cocker came round this afternoon too for a good ole splash and play with Bella, it was lovely to see them in there :D

I've been throwing things in there and Bella goes in and fetches them out.

I think she thinks it's just a giant drinking bowl

Would highly recommend a paddling pool to anyone who hasn't got one, it's so funny to watch them in there

I brought one for Finley last year when he was a baby he really really loved it.  However I brought a shell shaped sand pit one (to save it getting bitten).  It was good for socialising him with water - consequently 1 year later HE LOVES WATER.

and here's a paddling pool tip - especially useful if your pooches don't like the bath - put some shampoo and conditioner - or all in one in then they're getting clean while they're playing - they then just need a quick rinse off :D  I do this with the boys ;)

After reading your post last night I went to asda and got the girls a pool! It isn't inflatable so hopefully we won't have any holes! And only 4.44!!
I'm taking it with us to my mums later as she has a dog who loves water too. I can't wait to see them playing in it!!
I'm really excited!

Jan!!  What a rebel!!

You go girl!!  :D

I was interested in Wendy's comments about her dog who now loves water.....Sophie can't stand it!!

I may get a wee paddling pool for up at Mum & Dad's - they have a lovely big garden that she can run about in whilst hopefully taking the "plunge" too!!  :D

I never thought of a paddling pool before - but after reading this thread it could be quite funny!!  :P

Buddy hated it at first, wouldn't go near it. Then the other day, Ben threw ALL the tennis balls in there and sat in it himself. Within minutes Buddy was in there "digging" the water furiously. Poor Ben got quite scratched. Would love to find a bigger pool now.

We then had a mad half hour with him racing around our small garden (including UP the fence to get round the sand pit half of the shell!).

The next day he got a bit braver at the river, and stood out on some tree roots to have a "one-pawed paddle", but fell in head first. He turned himself around and managed to get up the fairly high bank ok.

Funny thing though, he'll only go in the pool if the tennis balls are in there (no other toys attract him), then when he's had enough he removes all the balls and wanders off!

we bought one for Millie when we had the last heatwave a few weeks ago!

Now everytime she goes for her wee she stands in it! :D

Although i must say she adores her pool and the hose pipe when im filling it! ive never seen anything like it.  She tries to catch the jet of water which means she gets soaked and it sounds like shes drowning herself!
We have a communal garden and i had her and the staffie that lives in a adjacent flat barking for me to spray them! every time i stopped they would bark!  :D

although all this will have to stop on august 1st as thats when the hosepipe ban comes in boo hoo :(

Hi Jan

I bought a hard shell paddling pool for my Pheobe and she loves lying in it
with her head just above the water blowing bubbles. :P
The weather has been too hot up in Aberdeen. I have a sun trap garden, 4 weeks
ago my garden temp went up to 37 deg B) . Thank goodness i have my paddling pool mine was from argos, 2 shells in a pack and its handy for washing Pheobe.

 Pheobe is not very good when its very hot to drink enough water, so
i have bought a water flask with a straw attachement. Its great for taking on long walks if the weather is mild. The straw attachment  is placed in the dogs mouth and
you squeeze the plastic flask, this way i know she has had water :D .

 we bought the shell one from argos as well at weekend, they won't go in on their own, but if you put Talis ball in it he will go in and fetch it, so hopefully with some encouragement he will get used to it.  Good fun though, mind you used it to bath them in as well so might have put them off, but it does make a good outdoor bath :P  :P

Most of the time they were just using as overgrown water bowl. :D

I bought one for Bella a couple of weeks ago and it is very popular with her.

Does anyone else's cocker blow bubbles in the water? Bella is obsessed with this. She will stand in water (drinking troughs, ponds, the paddling pool, you name it) and stick her face in and blow bubbles through her nose. She will do this for 20 minutes at a time (obviously coming up for air in between!). She puts her whole snout in and just blows away to her heart's content.

Maybe we should get her a snorkel...

Yes we have a bubble blower too in Holly, she loves her pool, only the other day she and our 1 year old granson went in the pool together for a splash around, only trouble was that Alfie was fully dressed and had his new leather shoes on - OOPS!
