waking up through the night
« on: May 24, 2004, 10:53:30 AM »
Hi,

I'm looking for some advice. We've been having a little problem with our 8 month old, Megan, the last few weeks. She has always been good at sleeping all through the night, she's shut in the kitchen at 11pm and would content herself until about 6 in the morning when we got up. However, lately she's been whining and yelping from about 4 in the morning. We go down and let her out to do her business if she needs and then shut her in the kitchen again, but more often than not she starts whining again and it's really hard to ignore. Does anyone have any advice on getting her to settle? This has only started in the last few weeks and i wondered if it was because of the light mornings, it is almost daylight from about 3.30am just now. We're getting really tired from having to get up so early  :?

Any advice?

Gill

I think that you must not respond when she is whining. She has success, she wines, you come down and give attention.

Try to ignore how hard it is.
Greetings,

Hi Gillian, i think your right about the light mornings, its most probably got Megan a bit confused.

We have had a similar problem with our 16 week old Staffy-suddenly started howling and crying really early in the morning (like 4/5 am, and I don't get to bed until 2/3 am because of my work some nights!!!).

We literally just ignored him, and after a couple of nights, he stopped.

If ever I have to let either of my two out in the early hours I neither speak to them or give them eye contact, which may sound harsh but from experience if I give them a fuss then they kick off when I go back to bed and won't shut up
