Chiropractor visit
« on: January 29, 2008, 03:54:46 PM »
Molo went to see a doggy Chiropractor today  :D

I have noticed now and again that he has been a little "stiff" in the back end - not limping or lame, but a bit slow to walk around the garden or struggling to climb up onto the sofa occasionally, and reluctant to go out now and again :(

The vet gave him a clean bill of health, so I made an appointment for him at the Isle of Wight Natural Therapy Centre for Animals (an absolutely wonderful place  :D)

Vav gave him an assessment and treatment today; his pelvis was misaligned which was putting pressure on some of the nerves leading to his back legs - causing similar symptoms to sciatica in humans (and I know from experience how painful that is  :'()  He goes back in two weeks for a second treatment, but she is confident that he will improve rapidly, especially as we are starting to do a lot more lead walking as we are training for Walk the Wight; apparently, lead walks are the best thing to build up and strengthen muscle  ;)

I am so glad I trusted my instincts; I was sure that something wasn't right, but it was so subtle that even OH told me I was imagining things  :005:

That looks like a great place! I'm glad they've been able to find out what's up with Molo, well done for spotting it though  :shades:

well done Rachel - you know Molo inside out so I'm really pleased you followed your instincts.

Maybe it's been a problem for a while and if he has been a little 'intolerant' of Bonnee sometimes there could be your reason  ;)

lead walking is great (it's what Jarv's sis with the cruciat ligament problem was prescribed)  - did they mention Hydro?

She did mention swimming - Molo does swim at every opportunity, but Vav does have a pool, so I might chat to her about it next time we go (after all, the insurance will be paying  ;))

My friends dog had back problems for ages (slipped discs or similar) he paid hundreds of punds at specialist vets to no avail, went to a specialist chiropractor and the dogs has been like an elastic band ever since  :shades:

Wilf has had sciatica too and we found acupunture helped as well, plus ultrasound is very good for sciatica too

Rach, you should use the pool its great and they really do love it.  Vav is a miracle worker with animals, I've used her for years with my horse and she's really sorted her problems out with pelvis, hips, etc   She's also treated Rocky when he decided he couldn't walk in a straight line, due to jumping off the muck heap at the yard and landing in wrong, she sorted him right out, I'd always recommend Vav 100%.

Hope he gets better soon.
