Is she isn't she in season
« on: February 11, 2013, 10:24:22 AM »

Last Friday after Teal jumped off my wife's lap there were 3 dark spots on my wife's jeans, so we had a look, nothing looked swollen and a tissue wipe revealed nothing. Have kept an eye on her no more spots and still does not look like any swelling.  yesterday we took Teal to the daughters house and Bailey the JR tried to mount her he has never done this before ( Bailey is missing his tackle so no real worries)
So is she isn't she ????
This would be her first season and as she is 7 months the age is about right.
All my other bitches in the past its been obvious, I really don't know this time, any advise welcome.

We are acting as if she is, so no more walks, confined to the garden as I don't think its fair on the male dogs that use the parks where we walk.

I would think she probably is. Pippa's seasons are very light and we only sometimes see spots of blood where she has been sitting.

Could be the start of it. What does she do if you scratch her on the back? When Millie was in full blown flirt mode she would present herself if you said her name in a high pitched voice  :005:

Will give this ago when I get in, thanks. She was desperate to steal some chocolate last night my wife says that's a sure sign  ;)

Sorry I'm late with this :buttkick:

The first sign for us was when she had ran in front of us and we then noticed something which we would not normally see, turned out to be her swollen vulva  :luv:

Hi Mel,

I am still not sure, tried the scratch her back thing, this she thought was a new game and involved having a munch on my fingers. Her vulva does not look swollen and I have tissue wiped every day and not had any signs more of blood.

At he moment we are not risking it and she is confined to garden only so she is extra hypo when I get home.
If it turns out I have kept her in for 4 weeks for nothing I will not be happy. Looking on the interweb it would seem its not that unusual  to show very little symptoms on the first season most say test with male dog so might take her over to see Bailey again at the weekend.

Hi Jeff

Bailey may think it's Christmas again :005:

Ours should have been spayed two weeks ago but when we arrived at the vets for the operation the vet informed us that Miya was having a phantom pregnancy >:D
Fingers crossed when she eventually is spayed all this seasonal activity comes to an end :shades: ;)

Hi JeffD,

Sorry to bump this up again (I meant to post first time around but a lack of time meant a read and run) can I ask what was the outcome with Teal?  Had/has she started her season?

Liesl is approaching the 8 month mark and like you I'm waiting for her first season. A couple of weeks ago (end of Jan) we were at an outdoor training class with some older training dogs. One of the dogs (castrated but likes bitches) showed some interest in playing with Liesl, no overt sniffing at rear end, but just gave her some attention. The dog's owner (one of the trainers) said it could be a sign of Liesl's impending season. I have since been reading up and watching and waiting for signs but none are in evidence (apparently this can be the case for a first season (?)).

Interested to hear about Teal and whether or not she did/didn't and if she possibly did were there any obvious signs (eventually).

I did read that the vet can tell whether they're in/approaching season so that maybe my next step.

It may have been a false start and you'll find she'll come into season properly in a few weeks, sorry, not what you wanted to hear I know, but I've had this happen many a time with my girls.

Nothing seemed to come of it, I think it may have been a false start, we still are not sure and still playing safe.

Thanks both :-)

Not read anything about false starts! (Off to google again!)

I'll leave it until Monday and pop down to the vets to see what he has to say.

Hi Jeff

You could on the mark with "false start" as almost two weeks have past since the first sighting ph34r I would have been interested to know what the vet had to say :dunno: I assume there has been no further changes in her body language :shades:

This happened with Ruby's first season.  Our groomer had commented that she was a bit "crusty" (sorry guys!!)  around her lady bits, so we watched her like a hawk  ;) She did become a bit quiet and clingy, but only very slight swelling.  I started wiping her everyday with white kitchen roll.  Eventually one day, I noticed blood where she had been sitting.  This only lasted a day, then nothing........until a few weeks later when her season started properly.  She was about 7 months old when it first started. We had her spayed just before she was a year old. BTW we tried scratching her back and she did move her tail, but she still does even though she has been spayed.........little tart  :005: :005:

I called vets for an appointment earlier on and they told me to come in today (if I was concerned). Vet nurse examined Liesl, she is not in season at present but he did advise to come back again for another check next week as she is late.

Arrived home tonight and the OH informs Teal has not eaten today and is in a weird mood LOL sounds familier having lived in a house with 3 women ( sorry girls) Let her out in the garden tonight and she would not come in, normally if I go to go inside she bounds in but not tonight, still not eating her mince but happy to take a bit of sausage. Still nothing showing on a tissue wipe.
Teal makes everything complicated.
