Diluted urine
« on: February 25, 2013, 07:53:14 PM »
Ozzy vomited  twice and then started to drink a lot more than normal so I stopped his Metacam and took a urine sample to be tested.

The test showed that the urine was diluted, I have to do another one tomorrow and then a blood test on Wednesday if it is still diluted.

I know that long term use of metacam can have side effects but he has only been on it for about 10 weeks.

So hopefully if there is a problem we have caught it early.

I think we will try acupuncture.

Every time I start to relax about him there is another problem.

Hopefully it's clear because he has been drinking much more than usual. Good luck

Thank you both

Ozzy had diluted urine about 2 years ago and I asked the vet if drinking more would make it diluted, because this made sense to me, but she said no.

Although at this time the urine did right itself, after he had loads of blood tests etc which came back negative.

I think he was drinking more because he was on Bakers dry food (this was before I knew better) and when I changed his food he stopped drinking so much.

He was not on Metacam then so that is why I am now worried.

I presume when you say diluted you mean "clearer in colour" if so I'm surprised that your vet says that drinking lots doesn't make urine clearer  it certainly does in humans.

Hi Ollie nathan's mum

Yes the vet said it is diluted and it is not as yellow as normal, although I would say it does have some colour in it.

I agree with you I would think drinking more will make it clearer.

I needed his first wee off the day but could not manage this morning will need to try tomorrow.

If you miss him tomorrow I think you can soak up the puddle with cotton wool and put in a plastic bag and this may be OK. I have been told this by my vet. Good luck.

Managed to get the urine sample today but it is still diluted.

Although vet said blood test is "text book" so I don't need to worry about that.

We will be testing urine again in 2 weeks.

Has anyone else had a dog with diluted urine and what was the outcome.

Vet said I can put him back on the Metacam but I will wait and see how he goes, he is walking  fine at the moment
