I can't believe it!
« on: January 17, 2014, 09:51:41 AM »
I'm upset, angry at myself!
Just been to the park, lovely... Then appeared 10 army men with green fluorescent backpacks and a lady all in bright pink running past us! Mae panicked and ran well sprinted for the hills!! She ran so far everyone trying to stop her. She wouldn't listen to the recall whistle and seamed petrified of me. I stayed calm kept calling her in a soft manner until she meets a main road, and im sprinting in wellies, Then came bk to me. The worst day of my life..... At 8 months old she has never ran far or ignored my call.  >:D >:D >:D >:D >:D >:D >:D

i'm so sorry it must have been very frightening for you. i remember when pepper was that age two bikes came up behind him ringing bells, he was so scared and ran home on his own. just keep on with the basics, i'd do a bit of practise recall in the garden if you can, lots of praise and reward.

Poor you and Mae  :016:, it must have given you both quite a fright, try not to get too stressed, as it will affect Mae. As Mary says, just back to basics with lots of praise, when she does return to you  :bigarmhug: :bigarmhug: to both of you.

It's such a horrible feeling trying to stop the panic from welling up inside. Poor You. Glad your little pup was safe and sound. It may take a little longer for you to regain your confidence.

think we all at sometime have had these major moments with pups and older dogs. even now if Gem does not respond I still get a major case of the willes but we just go back to basics (after a telling off)

How scary for you  :bigarmhug: Bonnie sprinted home once when she was about 16 weeks old....over 3 roads (very quiet estate and only cul de sacs but still heart stopping) when she was spooked and yanked the lead out of my hand. It is a very scary experience but I'm sure it is not a reflection on her recall or you at all. She was spooked and I think the panic just takes over. Don't blame yourself at all....it could and does happen to others xx
