Oster golden two speed A5 ( help required )
« on: February 14, 2014, 07:45:35 PM »
I'm sure this has been asked many times before, but I really need some advice on this.

I've bought the above machine and made the stupid mistake of ordering the wrong blades and they won't even touch his hair they just get stuck!

I'm after advice on what blades are required as not to make the same costly mistake again  :embarassed:

Ps my boy is an English cocker spaniel called Ollie he's 6yrs old now and He's half show half worker so short hair but fluffy :)

Any help will be much appreciated

I use Oster single speed A5 and use a No.10 blade for the head and inside the ears and the chest. Depending on how short you want to keep the rest of the coat the No.7F blade gives a short cut with a smoother finish.
I use that on the back the neck, the back and on the outside of the back legs.
The No.7F will do the job if you're not that bothered about a really short cut on the head you could try using that all over.
The higher the number of the blade the shorter it will cut. If you want a slightly longer cut the No.5 or No.5F will leave a bit more length.
A skip tooth blade gives a more natural look so it depends what sort of finish you want.
I use a No.7F as it gives me a nice short look especially for the winter.
Just a question, do you bath him before clipping? It will make a difference to the cutting as the coat needs to be clean so the blades cut better.

Have you definitely got the wrong blades? Maybe not as daft a question as it sounds because I used to have Oster Golden 2 speed clippers and had terrible problems fitting and changing the blades, and if the blade isn't on properly it won't clip efficiently and will probably be noisy too.

Here's a link to the Groomers website showing some Oster blades http://www.groomers-online.com/product.php/1372/oster-a5-single-speed-clipper

I now have Andis 2 speed clippers instead of Oster (sold the Oster and the No. 10 blade it came with). I now have an Andis 10 blade and still have the Oster 15 and 5F blades that I had with my Oster clippers as they fit both Oster and Andis 2 speed.

Have you had a look at the clipping guide here? http://www.cockersonline.co.uk/discuss/index.php?topic=32160.msg435560#msg435560

I mostly use a 10 on William (9 years old, show type, castrated so quite a fluffy coat but quite fine too) and use a 15 on face and throat. I aim for the same look as the one in the above link but with the feathering a little bit shorter.

I have the no 10 and no 5 blades

The machine makes a awful rattle noise and it just doesn't cut at all?

Hi

If they are Oster blades or even Andis blades they will fit the no 10 is the one they normally send with the clipppers & no 5 is fine for the body 7f would be better but in the winter months where I like a longer cut on the body 5 is ok.

Are you running the clipper first then pushing the blade on ? to ensure you fit it correcly, rattling sounds like not latching on fully.

Also if you do not position the blade flat to the coat so horizontal it wont clip correctly

It sounds to me that you may not be attaching the blade fully they do "snap" into position.
If you are & still rattling it sounds as tho the clipper latch may not be set up correctly
