Grey tooth
« on: October 07, 2014, 03:16:56 PM »
Hi,just noticed that Cloes canine tooth (the big fang tooth ) on the right hand side has turned a funny grey colour.Googled it and seen it might be caused by trauma such as biting down to hard on something, she has raw chicken wings as part of her diet and is always finding golf balls and chewing them,so this is possable.
Has anyone ever come across this,I hope she wont lose her tooth.Doesent seam to be in pain with it and is eating OK.Thanks.

Without being alarmist , I would seek
Vet advice.. discolouration may indicate
that the tooth has become non-vital.
If that is the case, most Vets would recommend
root canal treatment or extraction.

It means the nerve and blood supply to
the inside of the tooth has been compromised.
If nothing is done there is quite a high
likelyhood of infection.
I know it must sound awful but a missing tooth
isn't the end of the world ;)

Cloe has been to the vets and it turns out that it is plac on her tooth, but its not brown, its a blue/grey colour, and it has caused her gum to recede above her tooth. Its happened quite quickly as well as last time I checked her teeth they were OK but some did have a bit of brown plac on them.

The vet said if he scrapes it off it will just come back again so the best thing is if he takes the tooth out :dunno:,and gives the wrest of her teeth a good polish at the same time. Not to sure about this but shes booked in for Wednesday anyway.

Has anyone ever had a dog have to have an upper canine out.Cloe is on a raw diet will she still be able to eat chicken wings etc.

What are the best ways of keeping your dogs teeth clean to prevent plac forming on them,Cloe gets chicken wings and sometimes carrots to chew but must admit to not having cleaned her teeth,is this something I Should try to do regularly.
