Fudge hates the rain!

Fudge is 12 weeks old and luckily for us since we picked her up it hasn't rained much, but now she's allowed out I thought I would try a full walk in the rain! She hated it, she refused to move so I carried her until a heavy shower passed but she spent the whole walk whimpering and shivering. I thought spaniels loved water? Has anyone else had a puppy that hated water? Do they get over it?

You will just need to train her to walk in the rain. Lots of treats will work just make sure they are really nice special treats and she will soon forget the rain.

Hya

At 12 weeks it's a whole new world for Fudge, traffic noise, people she doesn't know and it's wet and horrible. Think extra patience is the key here . Most spaniels do like water, but there is so much else going on atm and if she has never experienced rain, it could be scary. (muddy puddles on the other hand  ;) )

According to some spaniels, there's quite a big difference between water and rain!  ;) My Mums girl Jade LOVES plodging about in puddles and going for a swim but she won't set foot outside the door if it's actually raining.  :005:

Thanks for the comments, I'll try some tasty treats when we go out next. She is used to traffic and everyday noises as we live in a flat so her toilet area is in our front garden on a busy main road and she has met loads of people so it is just the rain she has a problem with. Would a coat or something similar help? She just seems to want to find shelter somewhere so maybe wearing something warm would help? Thanks again

You will find also unfortunately there is a difference between dirty dank smelly water that you would find Shrek and clean bath water the latter not enjoyed at all!

Dylan hates it! If we want him to go in  The garden for a wee he stands at the door, looks at us as if to say, 'you expect me to go out in this!?'  We live up a farm track, lots of puddles, and he daintily picks his way around them, doesn,t want to get his feet wet. And as for the beach - what's with all this water?????

Sadly I don't have that problem.... Give Monty a whiff of water and he's out! Nightmare at times, hilarious mostly! Time and treats should work! X

Bonnie loves swimming and dirty puddles but she hates rain and has done since she was a pup. If she wants a wee and it's raining, she stands at the back door, sniffs the rain and turns round to go back to the settee!! I bought her a coat which does help her. If I take her out when it's raining and put the coat on she soon runs round and forgets she hates the rain. Des tends to take her to the woods if it's raining as she finds shelter. If we're out without her coat on and it starts raining she pulls to go home.....She's such a baby  :005:
