Teething - broken canine
« on: October 28, 2015, 10:35:45 AM »
Poor Dylan is teething at the mo, he has all his new front gnashers present and correct, has lost a couple of molars. Both his lower baby canines are still there, on one side the new one is trhough but on the inside, do you think it will move to its proper place when the baby one falls out? The other lower canine has broken, and he has a sharp little fang there now, the new one is not through yet. Best to,leave it do you think? He's obviously uncomfortable, giving him ice cubes, frozen carrots  and kongs, he doesn't want the frozen knotted tea towel, would rather bite my cardi!

I would take him to the vet as an infection could get in the broken tooth. When Honey was a puppy and going through the cockerdile stage she jumped up to bite my sleeve/hand but caught her baby canine tooth on my watch strap and the tooth broke! She was given antibiotics at first but then she had to have it removed as the risk of infection was too great. She too had new teeth come through while the baby ones were still there. If they were loose I tried to pull them out myself which did help. Hope all goes well x

Don't leave it to chance take him to the vet as it could lead to infection.

Thanks! I also googled it, and saw there would be a possibility of an abscess, so he has an appointment at the vet tomorrow afternoon.

I think teeth are an evolutionery failing for animals and humans - we'd be better off with beaks

I'm pleased to say that both his lower canines have come out in the last couple of hours, so glad the broken one is gone. Can cancel the vet tomorrow, saved a few pennies!

He's now bouncing around like a demented dervish, so he,s feeling a lot better without those pesky toofies.   :cool4: :clapping: :clapping:

We,ve got three so far, too, but not the broken one, that must be embedded in something around the house, probably someone,s slipper!  :005:
