Was I imagining things
« on: January 03, 2016, 08:47:06 AM »
Yesterday afternoon when I took hamish out for our afternoon walk, as usual we went along the harbour before crossing over to the beach  park.  as I was walking along the path beside the car park harbour I walked past a parked grey car with a couple sitting in it.  That is nothing unusual as lots of people sit in their cars and look out to the water.  As I drew level with their car all of a sudden the woman got out and in a flash took a small poodle out and pointed in in our direction.

The poodle walked on to the grass verge where hamish was sniffing deciding where he would poo.  The poodle was waving its rear at Hamish.  Now Hamish wee lad is not interested in mating yet and does not get worked up will only sniff.  I looked back to the car and the couple were both now out of the car but just standing at the rear of the car watching.  I got a funny feeling that all was not right with this situation and quietly said to Hamish to come then "walk on lad" as I always do when he is dittering around smelling the same spot for ever.    Hamish came to my side at once and we walked away.  They walked over to their poodle and took it to the promenade and started walking along there.  I stepped up my pace and crossed the car park then the road and went into the beach park away from them.
Were they hoping that Hamish would actually mate with the poodle there and then if so they picked the wrong wee laddie.  The more I think about this the angrier I am getting.  How dare they.  Looks like I will be changing my route today.  Was I imagining things, could it just have been innocent but when I get a feeling that something is not right then I usually listen to my feeling.

I think your instinct may have been right. I sometimes read the small ads. in shop windows (Yes, I know, I need to get out more :005:) and it's surprising how often there will be a card saying that a bitch is in season and the owner is looking for a dog to mate it with, they don't even seem fussy about what the breed is, let alone things like health testing. Maybe the poodle owners were hoping to make money by breeding some Cockapoos and charging hundreds of pounds for the puppies?

Nothing would surprise me these days. A litter of cockerpoos would be a nice little earner for them.

I agree, they would be wanting a nice little litter so they can sell on one of the dodgy web sites. Some people will do anything for money!

Thats what I thought in a flash my cocker their poodle and a litter of cockerpoos. I am angry at their arrogance.  I have no plans to ever breed Hamish as I didnt buy him for that and there is a disclaimer on his pedigree which didnt bother me as I have no interest in that whatever.

You are a lot more restrained than me, I would have probably put Hamish on lead and walked right up to them to find out exactly what their motives were.

Like them to try this trick with my two - they would be really disappointed, they are both castrated  ;)

It is worrying though for the innocent owners who have no idea what they were up to - these days you just can't be sure., for a start another owner/s deliberately following me would be a concern.

believe it or not about 3 years ago this woman on the beach with a standard poodle bitch and a scruffy looking black dog  was walking along and Bailey my intact boy was VERY interested in her poodle  , I said to the woman is she in season she said well she might be, but it doesn't matter he (pointing to scruffy black dog ) is her pup from her mating with a collie on the beach I couldn't sell him as he wasn't as pretty as the others.  >:D >:D

Makes me so mad that I feel physically sick. The cheek of some people and the ignorance and money-grabbing - oh don't even get me started. My colleague bought a cockerpoo a few weeks ago - paid £500 and did none of the checks despite me suggesting she should - just saw an ad and went and bought the dog - needless to say that has totally wound me up too  >:D >:D

Maybe you should have quoted an eyewateringly high stud fee at them  :005:
I must say I hate this fad for crosses suddenly being the new designer dogs.

That's outrageous! ! If they're not willing to spring for a stud I can only imagine what time of 'care' that poor dog and pups would receive! !
