Mobile microchipping
« on: May 05, 2016, 04:38:36 PM »
Just thought it would be worth posting a word of warning for using mobile microchipping services, after seeing an advert for this. Unless you know the person, do not allow anyone who offers this service to come to your home and carry out this. It is the perfect opportunity to get your address, dogs name, etc and, pass this info onto a third party if necessary!! Instead, use your local vets, so you know your dog will be safe.

Timely warning, thank you. There are so many rogues about that you really have to be on your guard. excerpt from Gov.UK website:Who can microchip your dog
Your dog’s microchip must be fitted by a trained professional, eg a vet.

Has anyone been on Petlog's facebook page, people are having all sorts of problems with the company as they have been overstretched due to the big response to get the chipping done by 6th April. Toby was microchipped at the breeder's vet and she is still trying to get through to Petlog to change him into my name (Breeders have to get puppies chipped in their names first, then change it - very likely a nice little earner for someone  ;)).

I noticed when I took Ollie for his annual booster on Friday that our vet had now but a line through the £15 charge and upt it to £30 :shades:,  noticed he also scanned Ollie to check.  No extra money there :005:

In our area as far back as winter 2014 one of the big pet charities were doing free chipping at events and pet stores.

Good advice as so many older people with a pet might well go down the mobile route.

As for our vet -  OH said he was taking advantage by price increase and said the scanning of Ollie was an example of trying to get money.

While that maybe - it could be he feels the telling of people for last 18 months, (here is Wales we were due to have this encforced Mar 2015 - then decided to bring in line with England) has made him feel they deserve it.

Same problem as Irene (Mudmagnets) - Monty's breeder has constantly been trying to get through to Petlog for the ID needed for me to change his keeper (to me).  It's a complete nightmare  >:D

I also ask my vet to scan Bea before we go away, that way I know the little thing hasn't migrated !

I know it must be scary that Pet Log have yet to change ownership, but am I right in thinking that at least the Breeder's name is down as contact ?

Unfortunately so many people looked to have left it to the last minute ( not COLers ) that it has now impacted on the issue.

Hope it all gets sorted soon.

From what my breeder said it sounds like Petlog have been so inundated that the Breeders cannot get onto Petlog, either through the website, or by phone to register the puppies in the system. Petlog put something on their Facebook page, blaming the media for all the publicity shortly before 6 April regarding Microchipping!!

Not Petlogs fault then >:D >:D

All these silly people wanting to comply with a new Law that I'm sure Petlog knew about before us, O and not to mention there rise in profits this year !!!

And here is another little fact!! If you have a pedigree puppy and want to register change of ownership at the KC, the price is £16, and the Microchip change is included in that price.

If however you buy a crossbreed puppy and therefore do not need to register (in fact it is not possible) change of ownership at KC, the price for changing the Microchip into the new owners name (after the breeder's that is) - and payable by the new owner - is £16 if it is registered with PetLog...any coincidence there?

PetLog and KC are on a fine ole money spinner me thinks.

Not sure if the other available Data bases are having same probs.

So, does that mean that when I complete the KC change of ownership, his chip details will be changed too?  I'll not need to complete this Petlog change after all?

Our breeder had Rhodri microchipped before we had him but gave all our details so we didn't have to change over. The day he was chipped, we had an e-mail from Petlog confirming all the details.

Not sure on that, Lesley. Will send you an email forwarding the email my breeder sent me, but it deffo sounds that way. Isn't there something about an Microchip ID code you have to have from  your breeder to put on your KC change of Ownership form. It all seems much more confusing than it needed to have been....or maybe it is me being dafter than usual  ;)

Maybe this will make things clearer ..or maybe not!!

Did you buy Rhodri before 6th April, maybe breeders were allowed to carry on as normal before that date?

Yes, I need a Petlog ID code, which the breeder is trying to obtain without much success at present, then I can transfer ownership to me, however if you are saying this will be done when I transfer KC reg to me, I'll hold off with the Petlog part.
