Dylan has had a seizure
« on: July 22, 2025, 07:26:23 PM »
My lad had a seizure, on holiday.
We were away in our campervan, on the NE. He had his dinner, everything normal. Dylan was sitting next to me on the bench when without warning he went into a fit. I though t he was choking at first, checked his mouth (yes I know you shouldn't, but I didn't know it was a fit at first). We had just been out for a walk, and I thought maybe he had picked something up. Anyway, he fell over, legs stiff, staring eyes,  completely oit of it for a couple of mins, then a few mins very heavy panting.  Very scary, I though he was going to die.
After he came out of it he had a long drink, was disoriented and wobbly for a couple of hours, then back to normal. It was Sunday afternoon. I phoned the helpline of our insurance company and booked a call with a vet. She said to keep an eye on him and if he started twitching to get an emergency vet, otherwise book an appointment the next day. We decided to travel home and see our own vets, got an appt for Monday p.m.
Vet said no treatment at present , monitor, take a video if it happens again. There are many causes. I thought he would want a blood test, but he said optional, as he may never have another fit. If he does, then definitely a blood test. Or do we have one anyway? Swithering. He is ten years old and in good health otherwise (apart from dry eye).
Had a childhood spaniel who had fits and lived til 18.

Gosh that must have been scary. I know I would have been.

Good that Dylan is better now and so far so good.

Sending you positive thoughts and a few of these  :bigarmhug: :bigarmhug:

Thanks 💖. He is his old self, but I'm on edge now, watching like a hawk. Phone now always at hand. Just wondering if we should continue  our hols as we came home early. Decisions decisions.

what a shock for you.

So glad he is back to his old self.

Not sure what to say about your holiday.  Maybe just wait a wee while and then make up your mind.

At least you have your own space which Dylan will see as his mobile home ( don't these cockers own everything).

Hugs to you and Dylan
Cocker kisses and cuddles just make my day!

You are always with me darlings Jaypup and my precious Oliver you are so missed

That must have been very frightening for you.  That's the good thing about the motorhome, you ca keep a close eye.  You don't seem confident enough to be going away, maybe give it a few weeks.  Hopefully it's a one-off. :bigarmhug:

Dylan seems entirely back to normal now 🤞, though I suppose another one could happen any time. Not going away at the moment as I' e got one those annoying summer chest infections, should like I've smoked Capston full strength all my life! Will head off again when I'm better.

Old age is no fun for man or beast as my dad used to say (and he only lived to 56). Hope Dylan and yourself are back to normal with the scary seizure episode well behind you and that you are able to get away again soon. Take care, both of you. - Ann C x
