Got my puppy at last!!! Feeding advice please
« on: February 19, 2006, 05:50:02 PM »
Hurrah, after several months of looking and disappointment I have now finally got my cocker spaniel puppy.  It is four years since we lost our last cocker due to old age and I am so pleased that I have now got another puppy to love.

We picked her up yesterday, she is 9 weeks old and is black and white.  Have taken loads of pictures and hopefully will work out how to post them shortly.  She is an absolute sweetheart.  I know it is early days but we have only had 1 little accident and she was dry last night (don't worry I am under no illusions that this will last!!).  She is really cuddly and also very mishievous and already showing the typical cocker traits of wilfullness and wanting her own way (especially in the garden when she is prevented from digging in the border!!)  Anyway we love her to bits already.  Cats aren't too impressed but I know they will soon come round.  We have called her Pringle.

One question, her breeder has been feeding her Beta puppy food.  She seems to really like it and not wanting to sound too gross, but her poos seem nice and solid on it.  Is this a good food?  and if she seems happy should I keep her on it?  What do others think or would anybody recommend anything else.  She looks very healthy on it and is lively enough.

Off to the vets tomorrow to get her checked over.  I will try and post some pictures soon

You've finally got your girl :D.  Sorry I'm not really experienced on the food side of things but someone will come along who is  ;).  Can't wait to see pics of little Pringle and hear all about her progress.

Hi there. My 9 week old pup is also on Beta puppy and she loves it. I agree poos are nice and formed, quite surprised as expected them to be a bit more runny at the start. Lovely topic isnt it! My impression is that  PURINA who make Beta and Bakers complete are quite a reputible name. I do think though that the more you pay the better value you get and the vets do recommend Science plan. Its such a nightmare trying to decide on a food as there are so many! Good luck.

Glad you have your new family member  I'd keep her on the food that suits her best - sounds like Beta suits her really well.  I'd only change the food if it causes problems as she gets older.  I've only just change Ben's food and he is over 7 months old.
