Trembling
« on: April 25, 2006, 01:12:20 PM »
I know he's young (8 weeks, 2 days) but is it normal for a pup to tremble quite a bit?! Sometimes he trembles when he's asleep or going to sleep - could that be cold? We leave him a hot water bottle at night and have the heating on but sometimes he still trembles if he's lying on you and getting your warmth but he doesn't seem scared and is a happy little thing.
We carried him round Pets at Home today and showed him the guinea pigs and caged birds ( >:() and he trembled then but we assume that was excitement because he was very interested in them.  :005:
The vet said he's a confident little chap when I asked him about it. Just wondered if anyone had this too?

Sorry I cant help you .....

But Molly did this when we first had her ... she's now a year old...usually when she was sleepy thought it was because she was cold...when I'm tired I sometime feel the
cold.....anyway I used to cuddle her and she seemed to stop .....she grew out of this as she got older, but even now when she's not rushing around and is all sleepy she likes to be really warm.....she always likes a fleecy over her at bedtime :luv:
Georgie nearly 5 months never trembled but seems to get hotter than Molly....

I wonder if some just feel the cold more than others....a bit like us really....

Paddy did this a lot, and sometimes it seemed like he was scared, but I couldn't always work out why!

I adopted Gwen Bailey's advice (from "The Perfect Puppy" - buy it if you haven't already got it!) on a failsafe basis and just jollied him along, with cheery "good boy's" as reassurance, rather than fussing or soothing him.  Seemed to grow out of it naturally by the time he was about 10/11 weeks old.  Not sure if it was added maturity or just he'd built confidence/trust by that stage.

Cute. We've just bought him a fleece blanket which will hopefully lessen the trembling because we're sure it's not fear. It's only when he's going to sleep and then not every time.

Jazz did it loads.
She still does occasionally.
Don't know why. She does't seem scared in the situations she tembles, and no reason for her to be cold. Who knows.

Oscar my 12 week old red head trembled quite a bit when we first had him, but I think was down to excitement as the breeder we got him from was a lovely lady but in my opinion didn't give him quite as many new experiences as he should have have had, as Charlie our 5 month old was exposed to lots of new things by the breeder, other dogs, people, lots of trips in the car etc.

Consequently every time he experienced something new he got so excited he trembled then got hiccups!!

He has calmed down a lot now but still gets hiccups now and again when he meets new people!!

Gosh, Sarah - I'd forgotten about the hiccups!  First time Paddy did it (like your Oscar), it was with excitement but I thought he had something wrong (novice owner panic).  I miss those little hiccups..... :-\

Ahhh. Hiccups in a pup must be very cute. Was he surprised at them?!

I spoke to the breeder and she said the pup they're keeping does it too. Must be just a "thing".

I've been carrying Poppy round for walks over the last couple of days and she's trembling less now she knows she gets to meet people who make a fuss of her! Still trembly though. :luv:

I,ve got a 11 month old golden boy and he trembled terribly when he was going to sleep and when he was put into the car.Studying him every time he did it,i worked out it was because he was cold(it was in the winter)He has all ways been a fussy eater, and its a constant battle to get the weight on him,so he isnt carrying much insulation in that respect. It really worried me at the time before i realised why he was doing it,as all my other cockers are on permanent diets because they will stuff both ends given the chance.
Now that he has a good coat covering(he isnt hairy, has a non strip coat)and its got warmer he hasnt done it for ages.I am going to buy him a coat though, for next winter as i think he will feel the cold more.
