Dylan's furst puppy training class tonight

It was every bit as exciting as my kids' first day at school! I know I should have gone myself first but Dylan's brother has been going for a few weeks and it came well recommended (and we couldn't wait )
It was fun.Dylan was reunited with his brother- so cute.There was around 12 other puppies. Most of what they were teaching, Dylan already has off-pat but would he do any of it?? Couldnt even get him to sit!! Quite nornal with all the excitement. Had to laugh at one thing. The teacher had a perfectly behaved border collie puppy who was doing it all no problem. She had said at the start that we could help ourselves to some tidbit treats for training  from the table if we wanted. Dylan was getting fed up with his, so I went to get some of hers. I made the mistake of opening the wrong box and was quickly told to use the other box. Then found out that it was her puppy's livercake in the wrong box,and kibble in the one for the rest of us. No wonder he was perfect, Dylan would jump through hoops for that! Have now come home and gone straight on here to find recipe for livercake, found one. Will go to shops tomorrow for ingredients and said air freshener. Can't wait for next week- took Emily, my twelve year old, she had a great time and did most of the exercises with him- Dylan's wiped out now-out cold on the carpet

Glad you had a great time....training can be addictive; I keep looking for more classes to do with Molo, and he's nearly three 

The "value" of treat is so important - a training class environment is probably the most difficult place to ask a dog to respond even the most reliable of commands, so make the treats really high value 

Another trick I learnt to help ease the "class excitment/deafness" problem was to vary where I practised the commands that Molo had already learnt - in the house, garden out on a walk, in the town square and vets waiting room  We still do this now - but it does mean that I can usually count on him in even the most high distraction areas - although seeing Snoopy watching him at last nights agility class was a distraction to far and he left the course halfway through

Glad you liked it. It's really good to go to along to these classes and meet loads of other pups. I think the wee pups are too over excited or scared at first to do anything you tell them. It's also good to meet other folks face to face who may be having the same problems as yourself and have a chat.
When we first took Leo he squirmed for an hour probably cos he was wanting to roll about with the other pups. 

You should try tuna bread aswell, someone posted a recipe a while back. And its not supposed to smell as bad as liver cake when its cooking.

I made dave some liver cake- he loves it. pretty disgusting to make though!! but you can at least freeze it.

Yes it is worth making a years supply of liver cake.... As you won't want to do it too often!!! Once a years worth has gone you might have forgotten how disgusting it was to make! I haven't made any in years, don't know how to anymore

My two will also sell their souls for tuna bread and that is so quick to make and nowhere near as smelly.

Here is the recipe for liver cake/bread. Most dogs love it and will do practically anything for it. 

But be warned! It stinks.
