How do I make sure Ive not scared him?

Last night I went to feed my two numtpies and had them sat waiting for their food good as gold. When I went to put Sally's portion in her bowl Glen jumped up and knocked a good bit of it out the measure. What happened next was an accident I promise but because it was not puppy food and I didn't want him eating it I said no and stepped forward to pick up the food at the same time as he went to eat some and ended up kicking my poor pup in the head  :'(. He doesn't seem hurt and he didn't seem at all scared of me or scarred by it afterwards but he did cower when it happended. I immediately apologised and gave him a cuddle but is there any possibility that he will remember me saying no and kicking him and link the two? If so then what do I do now to ensure this does not affect him in future? I don't want him to be scared of me when Im trying to train him.  :'(

I'm sure he'll be fine, he won't even remember it happening. Honestly I've lost count of the amount of times I've inadvertently stood on/tripped over/accidentally hit poor Alfie and Tilly had a door closed on her head last week because I didn't realilse she was behind me until I heard her yelp of indignation! I've also accidentally kicked Alfie,we were playing with their giant tennis ball and I went to kick it for them and got Alfie on the nose instead as he stuck it in the way at the last minute, thankfully I wasn't wearing shoes at the time and it wasn't a hard kick but he was fine, straight back into playing. He also tends to get so close to me when I'm doing stuff I'm banging into him every 5 minutes  ::)

Awwwww.  No advice, just wanted to say poor you.  I mind socking poor Chloe in the mush with a right hook as I was gesticulating wildly about something.  I also shut the car door on her head when she was younger.  You feel like the wicked stepmother :embarassed: :'(  You are probably dwelling on it whilst he has blissfully forgotten it ;)

Yes I wouldn't worry, same as Nicola, our Benji is always getting stepped on, whacked in the face etc.

But he's always been fine and seems to forget within seconds, just one of those things when they're under your feet or you're having a good play!
We always try to say sorry and give him a hug but he's already forgotten so doesn't know what on earth we're doing making such a fuss!!

Glen has been hit before (accidentally)  but never whilst I was saying no so I was scared he would link the two. I say no alot and it would have been a nightmare if he cowered everytime. Your all probably right. He has probably meved on but I still feel really guily and and spoiling him rotten to make up for it. He will probably chuck himself at my feet in future if he feels in need of special treatment.  ::) :D

totally agree- he'll be fine. :) i'm sure that dogs can tell the difference between us acting in anger towards them or accidentally hurting them.

barkley never makes a sound when we accidentally tread on or trip over him (the cavalier i grew up with used to yelp very melodramatically!) but he has perfected his response to make you feel even more guilty. ;) he kind of slinks up to you with a hurt 'but what did i do wrong?!' look about him, thoroughly enjoys all the fuss that you make of him, and then happily potters off as if nothing happened!  :005:

Thats got to be a cavalier thing... Lucy yelps if she thinks you're about to trip over her  ::)

I wouldn't worry either, Jarvis is forever getting tripped over in the kitchen, in which case he also gets a very annoyed "OUT!" and he never learns, so they can't take much notice!  >:(

As Everyone has said, i'm sure he'll be absolutely fine.  I'm always catching, treading and hitting mine accidently.....purely because it is a dogs aim in life to get in the way or somewhere first  ;)....Jessica used to have two symetrical length ears but now one is about 2 inchs longer as i've trodden on it so often ph34r :lol:

Tell me about it --- I think we've all done it at some time or other (Ruby regularly gets trodden on when she gets under my feet in the kitchen until she's banished).

And don't start me on the time I gave Ruby concussion :o when I threw a large stone in the river that was meant to go well away from her but my hand slipped --- apart from the embarrassment of it at the vets when it happened I thought she had brain damage as she couldn't stand up properly and kept staggering in circles. When I got her to the vets, after carrying her quite a way dripping wet with me looking like I was entering the latest wet T-shirt competition and covered in grit from head to toe, she couldn't stop wagging her tail when she saw him and she was fine ::)

My two frequently end up being trod on or kicked by accident. They've yet to hold it against us. Mind You - I've not concussed one yet!  :005:

Being naturally clumsy I have stepped on various parts of the dogs' anatomy; Domino tends to cry very easily but forgives me almost immediately,however Spike is very sensitive & takes it personally.

The other day I was fumbling about trying to put leads on at the end of their walk with hands full of leads,treats,balls & the chuckitt & I inadvertantly caught Spike on his back with the end of the chuckitt. ph34r He was most upset & hurt & was put out with me for the rest of the day!!  :shades:

Fern gets too close when going up stairs and I've heeled her in the mouth before  ::) (but yep she still goes too close and occassionally it'll happen again, thought cockers were smart?  :huh: )

My poor dogs have been stepped on/sat on/kicked/struck/poked in the eyes more times than I can count!

Apparently it doesn't make a lasting impression on them since they don't seem to learn to stay out of the way!  >:D :005:

On the positive side of having a klutz for a mum ph34r, when I cook I have bright, shining, eager little faces waiting to see what I will drop or spill! (Not to mention the times I've turned around with a pot or plate in my hand and fallen over one of them! >:( Oh well, cleanup isn't an issue  ::)

Oh Theresa, ya dafty  ;)

I'm sure he'll be fine. He knows how much you love him for sure.

No doubt if you kicked him in the head every time you had their food bowls in your hands then I'm sure he would be scared off. I bet he just thought " Oy, gerroff, ya clumsy oaf" :005: :005:
