Hipscored stud dogs?

I live in Sweden. This year, I have visited the UK twice to watch the Crufts and Malvern shows. It is striking how MANY good dogs that you do find in the UK. In my opinion, we do have nice cockers in Scandinavia too, but the population is much smaller.

I do not want to import a dog. I keep two bitches and that is fine for the time being. Next year I am planning to breed from both bitches. I have already found a suitable (at least I think so ) stud dog for one of them, but the other one... have not made any decisions yet. But it struck my mind, that mabye I should look into the possibilities of going to the UK and have her mated.

And - I have seen several nice dogs and studied pedigrees. BUT - is there a list anywhere of which dogs that are hipscored? I know of the lists in the wellfare reports in the year books of the Cocker Club, but it doesn't 'happen' to be an online, all-covering list somewhere?

In Sweden, both parents HAS to be hip scored for a litter to be registered in the Swedish KC. So - if I should go to the UK, I would need to find a hipscored stud dog of my liking. Both parents also has to be eye-checked within a year before the mating.

This whole idea might be a project for the future, but it is better to start to check things out, otherwise you will never know...

Concerning my own bitch - she is hipscored (A) has clear eyes and has also been tested clear for PRA as well as FN. She has been shown and is a Swedish blood-tracking champion (the questions concerning the bitch always come up in threads about stud dogs - and rightful so!).

So - the question: is there some place where you can find collected health information about UK stud dogs?

As far as I am aware there isn't a UK database of hip scored Stud dogs and not every breeder does it, it isn't mandatory in the UK. I would say a safe bet would be to contact the owners of the stud dog you are interested in and ask the question?

The KC will supply a list of all Cockers which have been hip scored, either by email or by sending you a CD. Unfortunately you have to pay for this service and they don't tell you the price on the website so you'd have to ask for this info before ordering (it varies depending on the breed). HERE's the order form you have to use. The problem you'll have is that not many particolour dogs have been hip scored so far although there are a few more now than there used to be.

My problem with just contacting owners is that I do not really know if I am interested until I know the hip score. Also, many advertisments in the yearbooks lack e-mail adress. And phoning from Sweden just to say 'hi' feels a bit... well.

I will order the KC list/CD.

Jane - thanks for your nice words about Myrten. Actually she is the result of a parti-solid-mix. Both parents are blue, but sire's sire was red and dam's dam was black. She has many solids in her pedigree, so I have looked at some solids too in my search for a male. But I would prefer a parti.
