Here are a couple of pics of harvey, he is black & white ticked :luv: in the first pic at 8 weeks old he had seperate white & black areas ( no roaning) but as he's got older he developed more ticking/roaning(you can just see some on the top of his leg :D) he also has black and pink pads where as a blue roan will have totally black pads I believe ;) Have to say I have never heard of a black roan but then I'm no expert :D

HI,

Black Roan is a Blue Roan, the colour scheme on all roans are different some darker and some lighter. I would guess the term Black Roan is referring to a dark blue roan. In any case, a blue roan is not technically blue...its black!  ;)
Cheers Timbo :o)

LOL, that's what I was going to say Timbo, what we refer to as 'blue roan' IS technically a black roan.  We have the same problem in border collies with blue merles which are technically black merles - border collies also have the dilution gene that dilutes black to blue/grey so when you get that in merle it's usually referred to as slate merle to differentiate although technically that should be 'blue merle' and normal merles should be 'black merle'....confusing isn't it!!  :P

Thanks guys.
So, the girl is blue roan. lol.

Yeah, I'd heard about Black pads - Blue Roan. Pink pads - Black and White. Never thought of what if a pup had both, lol. Would that be the case that the dog could go both ways?
