Accidents...
« on: February 06, 2008, 08:09:03 AM »
Flash has started weeing in the kitchen.  When we got him it only took a few days to house train him and i cant understand why he has started doing this.  He seems well and no other symptoms and is still scratching at the door to go out???

How old is he --- no matter how well you think you've housetrained them they can still have relapses. Best way to deal with this if you've ruled out an infection or other stress is to go back to basics re housetrianign them as you did when they were a tiny pup

Some young male dogs can also begin marking in the house when they hit their teens as well ;)

I'd like to know the age too... Jesse had about three relapses until he as around a year old! So it could be perfectly normal.

As long as there isnt a health issue causing him to lose control then i wouldnt be too concerned at the moment. Elmo is 10 months and had 2 accidents within 2 days last week. Totally my fault as i hadnt let him out to pee before we started playing in the house and he got really excited and had an accident in the hall. I jsut let him out and he did another pee outside and i praised him and gave him a treat just to reinforce it :D

Flash is one year old.  He seems to not want to go out any more, and always wee's in exactly the same spot, but even when we are stood right in the kitchen, he's usually fine though when we go out?

Casper started to wee in the house again when he was about a year old.  >:D (He had been house trained by about 11 weeks old.) We just had to go back to basics; taking him outside at regular intervals, waiting for him to perform and treating and praising when he did go outside.

Casper was also reluctant to go outside and didn't like treading on our grass.  ::) I put his lead on and walked him around the garden until he weed. It only took him three days to realise the sooner he went, the quicker he got back inside.  :005:
I know how frustrating/annoying it can be be though - I threw one of our settees out as he peed on it and the smell was awful.  ph34r

When you say he "wees in in exactly the same spot"  do you mean in the house. If so it may be because he can still smell the spot and will keep on using it.  Try cleaning the area with a warm biological washing powder mix, as this removes the scent. dogs noses are a lot better at sniffing these scents than ours. Don't use bleach as this has ammonia in it and will encourage them to use the spot again.

Pets at Home do an excellent product for the smell - they don't return to the spot when you use this and it smells yummy

Hamish is 7months and had 2 accidents in the house about 10 days ago - first for a very long time, but has been fine ever since.

I think they just like to keep you on your toes
