Teaching to dig in a pit ?
« on: May 13, 2008, 05:43:46 PM »
Hi All

Gunner has recently started digging up the Garden as we rent our house its not going to look good when inspection time comes  ::) So we have decided to empty the pond and make that into a sand/mud pit for him which I'm sure he'll love  :D the only problem is I don't know how to teach him to dig in the pit and not in the rest of the Garden  ph34r

Does anyone have any Ideas on how to achieve this ?

Many Thanks
Charlotte & Gunner

I haven't actually had a diggy-doggy for quite a while, but you sound as though you have the ideal situation to let him get it out of his system !!  I would suggest 'hiding' a few treats in your pond/sandpit, but at first you will need to let him know what you are doing ....  Maybe he will then home in on it as a goldmine ...   Perhaps making some areas a little more solid might quieten the diggin' devil in him, as sand just flies around ....  Also things like old raggers, toys etc could be 'buried' so that he doesn't  always expect food .. just beware of any local cats if you have a sandpit, otherwise you could end up with a copraphiliac (??)   :)

Thats great thanks  ;) We have 2 cats our selves and I did wonder if they will turn it into their toilet area  ::) I was going to put mostly mud with a bit of sand so it doesn't turn into a mud pit.....What is the best thing to do if he starts digging in the rest of the garden?
