Companion Dog Shows - can normal dog owners enter?
« on: July 25, 2008, 10:37:43 PM »
Hi

Just a quickie.   Looking through my paper just now and there is a Companion Dog Show being run on Sunday not far from me for Pedigree and Non-Pedigree Dogs.   Just wanted to know whether serious showers entered these types of shows or whether they are just fun!!   Was thinking about going along but not sure whether to enter Indie as know she isn't true show material but these state they are fun shows but are they taken that seriously.    :D

Hi,Yes any one can enter in the pedigree section as long as you have a pedigree dog of course, you dont need to be kc reg.But a dog with cc,s or a jw,can only enter in novelty. They are fun shows but can be serious in the pedigree section,i show nearly every weekend at a comp.show(if i havent got a champ.show on)and groom  my dogs as if we were showing at a champ.show,if we win ,great,if not,i take the best dogs home anyway, so look forward to the next show. Its a lovely day out,the dogs love it,too, and its a great way of getting them used to the out door shows.Have a great day if you decide to go,love the pic of your b/tan,i,ve got one to,if you see me about come and say hello, they would look great in the matched brace class.

you havent lived till you,ve owned a cocker

We've been to quite a few "fun" shows, or Companion dog shows as they are known.  Often there are serious "show" there, but everyone starts somewhere.  We felt a bit out of place at the first one in our leads and collars and everyone else had a show lead  ph34r

Compared to Loppylugs boys and girls, mine are giants  :005: and the boys don't do well in the pedigree classes but we've met some great people in doing the classes who have helped us learn how to do things a little more correctly.

We have done OK in the novelty classes - handsome dog, best condition, movement etc but it usually comes down to the judge on the day and their personal choice.  Go along and have some fun  ;)

We've got one on Sunday but as Heidi won't be through her season in time, it'll be just the boys so we'll probably go a bit later and only do the novelty.  Otherwise I think Sporting pedigree is class 2 and then there are 8 classes before the novelty. We could be sat around for ages and I think the forecast is hot weather  :shades:

hi yes you can enter a companion show,( and dogs do not need to be kc registered) although they are for fun, and alot are for different charities, any money raised.
you will get the more serious shower at these, especially in the pedigree classes. i did one a few weeks ago, and saw people with there grooming tables set up next to their cars. you normally find aswell, once the pedigree classes are finished, you see all these cars leave, before the fun classes start  :005:.

true show material !!, it makes no difference at fun /companion shows,as everyone takes the best dog home with them at the end of the day.
and depends on the day what the judge likes, some companion classes ask you to do a triangle, some are benched , give it a go, you may be surprised.
i think they are a great day out, and the dogs love it too.

Thanks everyone, wasn't sure if serious show people entered.   Was only thinking of going as its in a village where this a great riverside pub which we've took Indie too and thought we could go along to that and then off for a cold drink afterwards and sit by the river, however it has been extremely hot today and I'm not going to take Indie out tomorrow during the day if its as hot as she really struggles in the heat and hanging around waiting in the sun is not my idea of fun.   :D

We'll maybe go to another one if there ever is a local one again.

Hope it's cooler for you to have a day out tommorow. I took Glen to a companion show but we only entered the fun classes as there were alot of serious folk in the pedigree section and I felt it wasn't for us  ;)
