Rehoming
« on: July 27, 2008, 06:38:22 PM »
Hi have a 2 year old cocker male complete and having read the rehoming section wondered if I can rehome another dog with my archie.
He is 2 yeas old and not neutered.  He is housetrained and really very obedient.  Having read all the dogs that need rehoming was wondering if we could be considered.  Our archie is left whilst we go o work on his own in the his own run in the garden for approximately 7 hours a day and he doesnt find this a prblem as he has his own run and kennel in the garden at at weekends we go off in a motor home and go for long walks  he doesn find ita problem and was wondering if  this lifestyle was ok to rehome a homeless dog/

I think you might struggle to find a reputable rescue which would be prepared to rehome a dog into the kind of environment you describe.

Firstly, reputable rescues expect existing dogs to be neutered - there was a recent debate about this if you do a search; you may not agree, but like it or not that is the way it is  ;).  You are lucky that your dog is happy to be kennelled in the garden for 7 hours a day, 5 days a week without becoming noisy and/or distressed at the regular long periods of solitude; not all dogs would thrive in this environment, which is why reputable rescues and breeders require their dogs new homes to be able to provide more contact/company with the dog than this  ;)

Of course, you could buy/rescue a dog from the classified listings where these kinds of checks aren't made - but this carries risk, as many advertisers don't tell the whole truth about their dog; you could be faced with a big challenge that will require more commitment than you can give  :-\

Also some rescues may not like rehoming a dog to a family where the dog is kennelled while the owner is out all day.

You will have to contact each rescue individually as all we can do on here is 2nd guess as we can't really answer for what the rescue may want.
