On reading past threads I've just noticed a COL member  whose avatar contains the word  'Restricted' rather than 'Site Member'  :-\ .

Now I'm curious.

 Can someone explain what this means please? Ta.

Restricted status can be applied to a member for a variety of reasons and as the name suggests, it means a member does not have full access to a few features/areas of the forum either on a permanent or temporary basis. Out of a membership of nearly 5000, under 15 members have Restricted status so it is not something we use very often.

That would explain why I had never noticed it before. I thought it was a new form of membership  :embarassed:   ph34r :005:

Ok, and why are some people Site Member AND Hero Member, whereas others are just Hero Member? Its all very confusing.

Ooh, sorry to  hijack the thread, I dont know who I should PM about this, but I know of at least 2 people who are really struggling to join COL at the moment. My OH wanted to join so he went through the registration procedure a couple of times and has never heard anything back, and one of my friends who has a cocker has tried 3 or 4 times over the last few months to register but hasnt been able to. Is there a reason for this?

When anyone applies to join the forum we send them an activation email - unfortunately sometimes they get blocked by spam filters. If anyone applies to join but doesn't receive the activation email they need to email us at info@cockersonline.co.uk giving details of the username they tried to join under .

Re site members/hero members - as far as I recall these names don't actually mean anything. I think the Hero Member group was once created for techie reasons so that everyone who was a member at that time could be transferred over to a new version of the forum... or something complicated like that.  :lol2:

Or if you don't get a reply from that address, you can contact me at jane@cockersonline.co.uk. If your email account has a spam folder, it's also worth checking in there for any missing COL emails

Could I ask why some members are restricted?

Well we could always create a special category for those that want their time on here rationed - could end up with a queue of people wanting that :005:

Just to add for those still curious about the Restricted status that it's a rarely used Admin function and if you respect the rules (particularly in relation to advertising) and follow the Etiquette Guidelines, then you have no need to worry.
