Sorry for all the posts on colourings, it's suddenly become fascinating.  :lol2:

Is there any real difference between red and golden?

Can I pose a secondary question to this, why do the golds/red seem to have a more difficult coat to manage in that they can be late developing the coat and I'm told, they are more prone to drop the coat after seasons and not always regain the long show coat  :-\  I assume it's also a genetic trait or is it just certain blood lines  :-\

Think we've had a few threads on this question - here's one from a while back which might help :

Dropping the coat after seasons isn't confined to reds/golds - most of our show girls have at one time or another had to be taken out of the ring when they've dropped their feathering. Some bitches may be lucky and never drop their coats but they're more the exception not the rule.

As far as red/golds being more difficult, the same goes for other colours too if they don't have a thick coat to start with - they can take much longer to develop a full show coat and some never do get the thick feathering that others do eg our Ruby (orange) always had a thick coat right from puppy hood and never lacked feathering (except after a season) whereas her litter sister had a much finer coat and relatively little feathering.
