Flea time

What do you all use for fleas? Are spot on's the best or sprays? Don't have much of a problem usually as they have garlic, brewers yeast and cider vinegar added to their food which prevents them getting the little varmits >:D but last couple of days I have seen a couple >:(

Any advice on effective room treatments for possible flea infestation ? Have had an embarrassing day when my Mum went to GP with a mystery rash to be diagnosed with flea-bites - the only animal she comes into contact with is our spaniel Paddy and they often 'dog-sit' for us. I am mortified as we flea-treat him regularly and he has been bathed and front-lined today. We now need to treat both houses just in case and I am washing all bedding etc.

Lynne - this could be your very problem - bathing CAN reduce the effectiveness of frontline if done sooner than 24hrs prior to treatment or if the frontline is applied less than 48hrs after bathing  ;) Also if the dog has an existing flea infestation, frontline recommend the bedding, carpets etc are treated and that the frontline be reapplied monthly until the infestation is treated i.e. more regular than the 3 month interval prescribed as a preventative.

Some years ago when |I had a problem with fleas on the carpets/furniture etc, the vet sold me Staykill, came in a big yellow can and was a tad expensive but it did the job along with frontline pippets to treat the dogs. Have used frontline ever since with no probs.......or fleas. (now using Frontline Combo, which on some internet sites seems to be 'precription only, but maybe not all?)

Be careful not to spray paddy with the staykill tho, cos it is for carpets and furnishings - not pooches or pussies ;)
