Making more space and using drive D?
« on: June 12, 2009, 03:25:28 PM »
Thanks to my new camera and the piccys being so big i'm out of space on my harddrive, despite deleting things and lots of piccys  :'( and it's starting to make my 'puter slow, freeze etc. So, I have little space on my C drive but looking at it loads on my D. Can you use D to save stuff? I know nothing about this??
Anyone know?  :-*

Hello. You should be fine to save stuff to you D drive. It sounds like your hard drive has been partitioned in to 2 drives: C and D. Perhaps try saving any old file / picture on to the D drive and see what happens. Feel free to message me if you want more any more detailed help with it as IT is what I do for a living  :D

Alternatively you could get an external hard drive to save stuff on.  Loads of space and they just plug into a usb port, and they quite small and portable.

Exactly what I was going to say  I have one and don't know what I'd do without it. Didn't quite realise how many photos I have! Wouldn't like to think what would happen if they were saved on the pc.

Best bet to the advice given above..An external hard drive of 500gb is fairly cheap to buy now....And like what has been said frees up a lot of space on your main computer...Chris

Hello,
Your C:/ drive is as you know your main drive, and allot of manufacturers are now partitioning a small portion of the hard drive to D:/ as a backup partition. They do this VIA things like RAID. Or its used as a tiny partition which is used for the recovery partition. If i were you i wouldnt touch it. Unless you partitioned it yourself and/or installed a second hard drvie or there is a second hard drvie inside the computer. :-). Also how big is the partition to find out right click it and press properties. If you dont have sufficient permissions its probably saying we dont want to let you in 'cos if this gets damaged you wont be able to restore your computer.
Hope this helps.
