difficulties registering
« on: July 09, 2009, 06:02:08 AM »
My friend is having difficulty registering on here...

she said this "I have sent in 2 requests now to the forum and they said they never received them. So I just sent a 3rd hopefully they will get this one. "

I'm not sure...is there any way that I/we can help her out?

thanks

One of my friends and my OH both went through similar things, and ended up giving up!

I'm not quite sure what your friend means as new members have to Register rather than send a request in and the system is automated apart from the stage where one of the Admins approves or rejects each membership application. I'm guessing that the possible problem is that along with many other forums, we use a system which requires the new member to click on an activation email (to ensure a valid email address is being used) and so often these activation emails from COL end up in spam folders. I did approve a recent new member from Canada and if they have not activated their account yet, this is possibly what has happened. If your friend cannot find their activation email, please ask them to check their spam/bulk mail folder. If they can't find it even after that, please get them email me or Colin and we will try to help (jane@cockersonline.co.uk or colin@cockersonline.co.uk)

I had the same thing and in the end I sent an email directly to the forum somehow, can't remember (not much help!!), but I got an email back to say that it had been manually registered.  Initially I got a welcome message with a confirmation of my log in etc, but then it said that the application would be reviewed and that I would be sent another email to confirm, and then I would be able to log in.   However, the 2nd email never happened.  Think I tried twice before emailing direct.

Have got the same problem with the 4paws forum - have registered so that I can take part in the photo competition, have received a confirmation, but no acceptance email.

Admin can manually activate members but we will need an email from the new member so that we know their email address is valid. From past experience, COL activation emails tend to be treated as spam particularly if you use Hotmail or AOL but many spam filters can be sensitive to automated emails so it's not unusual - I've had the same thing happen when joining other forums and have usually found the email hiding away in the spam folder ;)

Thanks so much Jane, and everyone :)

I *think* the person that you just approved from Canada is the person that the friend I'm referring to referred here right after! She's the owner of the sire of my dog.  By "request", I'm sure she meant initiating the registration process-I'm sure our lingo might sometimes be a little confusing, as I think we sometimes use words in a different way than 'yous guys' do. (hehe, just throwing in some canadian slang for fun!)

I have a feeling too that it might be her junk settings are catching the activation email request.  I'll check with her again today, and see if she got on, and if not, then I'll pass along the email addies to her.

Thanks so much,

Enjoy your day!
