Ignorant man
« on: February 07, 2010, 03:44:56 PM »
I have had a horrible experience walking Ginny today. She can only have onlead walks as she was spayed last Monday, everything has gone well all week and today Rose, Ginny and I met my sis and her hubby to go for a walk (still on lead) in Fatfield Washington, its a lovely spot with paths round a lake and we usually meet responsible dog owners. We spotted a man and woman walking seven golden retrievers, 5 off leash. All of a sudden the five off leash ones caught sight of Ginny and came bounding towards us, the man called them back but they ignored him and before we knew they had knocked the lead out of my hand, ( one of them jumped on me) and Ginny was soooo scared she just bolted  :o. The man did nothing so I shouted at him to get his dogs under control. My sis and her hubby ran after Ginny who had by this time  just lain down on her back while they all sniffed her, about 300 yards away. I felt terrible because although I can now walk after breaking my foot last Oct there have been complications so I cant run. The man eventually got his dogs, whilst shouting at the woman to hurry up with the two on leash who was scurrying along to catch up to him ::). He kept saying she will be ok they won't hurt her, I kept explaining to him that she had been spayed earlier in the week and shouldnt be off lead never mind tearing along with five dogs chasing her >:D >:D. He then said oh she will be fine they (referring to his dogs) have all been spayed and they are fine......totally thick he just didnt get it  >:( >:( >:(. As he walked away he commented,  " you know what its like once they decide to do something its pointless calling them cause they take no notice". Not a word of apology, I was sooo angry but so shocked as it all happened so quickly and I found myself unable to say much. Ginny was okay and still seems to be, this was four hours ago. The dogs were lovely beasts and I'm sure they  just wanted to say hello but they were totally uncontrolled, my 12 year old was really upset and if I'd had a toddler with me it could have been really dangerous.Ginny is a sociable little dog and is usually fine saying hello to all types of dog, she was totally bewildered  I felt like telling him she shouldnt be allowed to own dogs >:( Phew...I needed this rant!!!!  Julie

That would be my worst nightmare. Its bad enough having one large dog bounding up to you when you don't know them but five! Its not good enough to casually say that they wont take any notice of you.If thats the case they ought to be on a blurry lead >:D. Glad that Ginny is OK and no worse for ,what for her must have been frightening. Settle down and have something nice :luv:

Hope Ginny is alright  :luv: bless her  :luv:
Hopefully the incident hasn't caused any problems with her operation site.
I often find that apologies rarely accompany such events  >:(
Maybe the owners feel if they say sorry, they are admitting their dogs were to blame  :-\
I am always apologizing for my two who do nothing more than sniff :005: but I am conscious that some people don't like dogs.  ;) I guess I am just the submissive type  ph34r
Don't let it put you off going there though.
Hugs to Ginny :bigarmhug:

Brodie would have had a heart attack :-\. What sort of idiot would let his dogs do that, especially when he knew she was recently spayed? Thank doG she's alright, I know where I'd be sending the vet bill if she wasn't though >:( >:(

Poor Ginny, thank goodness she is alright.  Ellie would have been terrified as well.

Some people are so irresponsible.  Yesterday we were out walking and I heard a comotion behind us.  OH said 'those dogs have just nearly knocked that man off his bike'.  I crossed the road very quickly because coming up behind us was a man with 2 dogs - one looked like a pit bull type and the other a pit bull type crossed with a bulldog.  The worst thing was they were both on extended leads that were fully extended, one was right out in front of him and the other way behind him.  No way would he have had any control over them if they had had a go at Ellie, or anyone else.  I was glad when he got way out in front of us.

Hope Ginny soon forgets all about her ordeal.

Grrrr, how  >:D >:D >:D

Mum's tiny Papillon Puppy was bowled over by an Afghan Hound about a month ago, it really knocked her for six. The silly owner (who didn't apologise) let it off the lead about 50ft away to "say hello" to Lexi - at the speed it met poor frightened Lexi at its amazing it didn't do any damage.

Hope Ginny doesn't suffer any lasting effects (mentally or physically) from her ordeal. Sending gentle cuddles to her  :luv: x x x x

Poor Ginny, I would have been furious if that happened to Millie after she was spayed! I don't know why people have so many large dogs when they obviously can't control them  >:(. A Visla came hurtling down a hill and charged into Millie this morning when she was on a short lead and made her really wound up, after 30 seconds or so the owner with her jaunty cloth cap on gave a few 'pip pip pips' on her whistle and the dog went charging off towards her.....  why didn't she do that BEFORE it had careered into us and was obviously upsetting my on lead dog!!

Poor Ginny I hope she is OK,you do wonder if some people have any common sense at all.I was out today walking down by our local river which is a very popular circuit for dog walkers and after Sunday lunchers  A young couple were out with what I think was a viszla, they were both on leads as we were heading back towards our car but Otto stopped to say hello and they made a fuss of him, after letting him sniff they then announced she was in season!(he was totally uninterested)so they were keeping her on lead.Ok so their dog was safe from unwanted admirers but as they set off up the path i wondered how many people with entire males would have difficulty with recall on the towpath today  ::)
