Bulk buying treats
« on: March 01, 2010, 07:40:23 PM »
I always leave mine with a treat/chew in the morning when I go to work and they have something when I go to bed.  This is usually a tripe stick or a meaty treat/puffed jerky type, preferably with minimal additives.  But the bags I buy from the Pets at Home type places are small and don't last 4 dogs long and cost-wise, adds up to more than their feed in costs too.

Just wondered whether anyone knows of a good mail order supplier of something like trips sticks etc that works out more economical.  I have seen bigger bags around the shows which I can buy when I see them but any recommendations?

Oh really hope someone comes up with a good suggestion   I will be checking in with interest too.   :shades:

I know what you mean Jaspers Mum...the treats don't last very long with having multiple dogs & they cost a fortune  :o  Mine have more money spent on their treats than it costs for their twice daily meals too :o

I used to order from this site quite a lot, not sure how they compare pricewise though.

I've solved training treats by buying bags of Fish4dogs kibble - it's just a nice size and the dogs like it.... problem only when I've got it in my coat pockets and these cold days I've got hands in pocket, YEP, hands stink of fish  ph34r  works out cheaper than little bags of training treats though and probably healthier.  A £6 bag lasts them ages.

far cheaper ( and healthier ) to make your own  ;)

and you can stuff them into kongs with a bit of peanut butter to stop them falling out  :D

don't feel mean - after reading this thread Jarvis falls into the deprived category too as he doesn't get loads every day  :lol2:  I just need air tight containers as his treats last such a long time  :shades:

We buy bulk bags of dried tripe, pig intestines, dried sprats, jerky, pizzle sticks and other animal parts  :o  :lol2:  all from zooplus.co.uk

We have had half a dozen or so orders from them,P&P is free with purchases over £30 and it is all packed up nicely.

I think there prices are very reasonable and I really can't fault them, give them a look HTH  :D

My lot usually only get pizzles, tripe sticks etc. once or twice a week but I bulk buy from Zooplus too, they do some really good offers on multibuys and I've always found the service really good.

Another one that falls into the mean mum category...Chloe gets teensy weensy bits of livercake/sausage/chicken as training treats, other than that she gets 1 mini gravy bone in the afternoon, and another one at bedtime. Once a week, she might get a chicken filled bone thingy and that's about it really  :shades: ;)

I like giving my dogs treats - anything that makes them happy, makes me happy too (apart from rolling in dead things etc obviously  :lol2: ).

I've just looked at the Zooplus site and there's so many different things I don't even know where to start - anyone got any recommendations ? Preferably the less fatty things (they are all neutered now) and ideally something that Stevie can't wolf down in 2 seconds.

Ruby has been neutered, but is still lovely and slim while eating a piece of tripe or two EVERY day(poor Chloe an Jarv  :005:) a piece of pizzle will last her around an hour, and for recall i cut the pig intestine into small pieces, hands smell divine  :lol2:.

Also look in the cat section at the dried fish   ;)
