new colours appearing on a 14 month old dark blue roan
« on: April 07, 2010, 09:35:27 PM »
I have a question about colouring. Ripley is a very dark blue roan - the roaning being restricted to chest, tummy, toes and muzzle. She is beginning to get tan colouring appearing over her eye brows, cheeks and muzzle - this has started only 3 months ago or so. The colouring is turning her previously black areas to a chocolatey / tan colour. Two of her litter had 'and tan' colouring - dam is a red, sire a blue roan. Will the full tan marking develop and has anyone come across this before. I am quite excited she looks even more lovely !!

How cool is that! I'm afraid I don't have enough experience with the "and tans" to know how much further it will develop. I've seen what are called ghost markings on some dogs, faint traces of tan that stay faint and don't reall darken up to the full markings.

I'm no expert on colours... but I'm sure there was a thread in the photo section recently where a blue roan was suddenly showing tan markings....
I agree, we definately need to see some piccies!!!

I have tried putting them in photobucket - you may have to click on each one to see more clearly - the best piccie wouldn't upload.

Mabel is a blue roan and she has ghost tan eyebrows and between her middle toes on her front paws there are some tan hairs too, its only when your close or the light catches it that you see it, I suppose it was a similar time that we noticed it, but cant be sure
