Jade spayed on 28th of may
« on: May 30, 2010, 09:44:05 AM »
Hello every body ...i got my lovely cute baby.. jade spayed after she become 5months and 17 days old..vet said you brought her, very right time as she is above 5. 1/2 months is perfect for a dog....however.. from last two days she is not very active but ate few raw hide sticks , few boiled eggs, and some liquid glucose and she is OK now.. but fist day on 29th whole night she kept roaming in my room and never let me sleep .. may be because of pain and may be because of anesthesia effects going off from her mind....after 4.30 in the morning she slept and i got nap tooo..... but yes taking positive effects into consideration ...... i am happy to go with that..............

experienced people please comment on this..their is any harm? huh huh huh huh huh huh huh.....help will be highly appreciated ..... as i already had word with vet (he said no issues with that if you cleaned the wound with savalon)

sure i will be carefull but she loves only to eat raw hide chews..... however our vet did her surgery only in an hour but he gave jade cut on the right hand side of the for taking the ovaries and rest out, instead of doing it near the legs.. i asked him about this and he said you don't have to worry about as it helps your puppy to sit and relax properly as she tries to sleep after stretching her legs but i am afraid that she will get her back after a months or not..experts please comment?.......picture for support to my context  ...

please any body suggest when the hair or coat will come on her skin...?

Penny was speyed at 6 1/2 months but the cut was on her stomach, about 2/3rds of the way down. I haven't heard of speying through the side before, but only have my experience with Penny to go by. She was very upset and confused for the first night, but got better pretty quickly - hope Jade feel better soon

Kira (Lab) was speyed on Thursday and hers was done through her belly (rather than the side).  She is 6 1/2 months and being an absolute horror.  The vets said she would be subdude for a few days, but 6.10 am Friday morning she was sitting at the door wanting to go out for a walk with us (i finally related yesterday morning).  She is full of bounce and it is proving very difficult to keep her quiet.  >:D

I don't want to be trouble but why do you all get your dog spayed?

Never heard of spaying OP by a cut on the side in stead of on the stomach.

the OP Is in India so the standard procedures may well be different there  ;)

personally i got mine speyed to prevent health issues when she gets older, remove the possibility of accidental pregnancy or deliberate (i would have been tempted to breed her!)

We were told by the vet that early speying would elimenate the risk of mammary tumours and womb infections later in life. I didn't want to risk an unwanted pregnancy either and as I have no intentions of breeding it seemed like a good idea.
I must admit that I do sometimes now think it would have been lovely to let her have a litter, but I'm not knowlegeable enough about cockers to risk it, and if Penny's health was adversely affected at all by the pregnancy (I'd have this horror of her dying during welping :-\) I could never forgive myself.

Is speying very rare in Holland?

I got my spayed because of the health risks (mammary tumours), however wished I known more about how it could affect her behaviour before I went ahead.   :-\

Vets In Holland are increasingly reluctant of spaying at early ages. The pros doesn't always put up to the cons. Many early spayed dogs become incontinent en have bones and muscle problems, because they aren't fully grown yet when they get spayed. There are more cons against early spaying but I have to do some research...

How do you know the difference between a behavioural change was as a result of being spayed and one that would have happened anyway? Im not trying to say it wasnt as you know your own dog i was just wondering....

It could equally go the other way. My friends dog was allowed a seasons and she developed some behavioural issues presumably as a result of the hormones, some of which didnt go away.

Its difficult to know whats the best thing to do sometimes.....

I wouldn't say its adverse but shes definitely changed since she was spayed, shes not as confident and more fearful than she was prior to a year old.  I cannot find anything to suggest that spaying a female changes their behaviour, after all everyone says its neutering a male that can alter unwanted behaviours but has no effect on females so I really shouldn't have posted that as I have no evidence to suggest it does.    :-\
