Mounting
« on: September 06, 2010, 06:03:19 AM »
Hi
Any thoughts on this little problem i have, we have five cockers, two off which are 7 months old, so still babies. Our male dog(Chip) has taking to mounting our smallest pup(Skye). She is not in season and neither are the other bitches. He has always been a trustworthy dog and only mates or mounts the bitches when in season and only when they are ready. He will sniff and check but the last 2 days i have had to keep them apart. He will not leave her alone. I  am worried he will hurt her, as she just stands there.
I know this can be a dominating thing, but it is not like him at all. Skye is a soft wee girl but holds her own with her sister. Our oldest dog Millie is boss and Chip is happy to let the bitches sort things out and never gets involved.
They very rarely have any disputes.

O poor little lass...he must be confused as well....do any of those sprays work that are supposed to fend off dog advances?  There's something called Bitch Spray by Johnsons?  Sorry....I don't know if these kind of things work

Are you sure she is not in season :-\, I know that sounds daft but could she just be very clean so there has been no visble blood and her lady bits may not be all that swollen???? Just a thought as you say this is very out of character for him and he seems to be singling her out rather than just being 'randy' (sorry didn't know what other term to use) as then he would be trying it on with the other girls???

Hi Thanks for the advice, i did talk to a local vet who has told me that she may be having a blind season, having all the hormones but no signs and no ovulation. So i may have a hormonal teenager.  ::)
Thanks again
