And I am 'mad hippie woman' anyway!   ph34r :shades:

Anyway, back to the OP, I think we got a bit sidetracked.  A dog with issues like Dora, that's something a bit different.  I completely agree with Karma, you need some professional advice.   And I do hope you manage to find a solution that works for you!

With regard to the OP, I'm with everyone else in that you should get some professional advice.  IMO, you need to be very careful about first introductions and even more so with a dog that has a history such as Dora's.   ;)

Milo and Mocha were certainly allowed to calmly sniff Eryn when she first came home, but there's no way in the world that I would have stripped Eryn off and left her on the floor for the dogs to lick all over!   :o  I didn't keep them out of the way as Jo and Hannah did, but they weren't allowed to sniff/lick her face, in fact the top half of her body at all.  It was very warm when Eryn was born and she was often just in a nappy or vest so they were allowed to lick her legs and feet, which were washed straight afterwards.

Personally, I think there's a very fine line between taking sensible precautions and allowing a dog to build up "resentment" towards the baby because every time the baby's in the room, they get shut away.  I know it won't be everyone's way of thinking, but it makes sense to me.

Milo and Mocha pretty much ignored Eryn for the first 4 months or so after the initial interest and Mocha still isn't really that fussed about her, unless she has food.  If Eryn approaches her, she just gets up and moves away, with a big sigh as she does so.   :lol2:  On the other hand, Milo is very protective of her and very tolerant and they play together really nicely.

As a lot of others have said though, I think you just need to follow your instincts.

Thanks very much for all your advice, which I have taken on board.  I kind of agree with all of you in some way, but personally feel that it would be too difficult to keep Cinders away from baby until he was 6/7 months old.  All Cinders wants to do is come and say 'hello', once she has done this a few times she quickly calms down to the point where she isn't interested when someone she has met before turns up.  I don't want to stop her greeting baby when he arrives home and then for her to become resentful.

I think OH and I just need to go with our gut instinct when the time arrives - everyone is different!!

Many thanks again to all that responded and apologies to original OP for hijacking the thread!!

Sorry!!!
