Your Thoughts for Little Mabel Please UPDATE
« on: January 26, 2012, 04:38:13 PM »
Mabel is a golden show/working cross (mostly show).  She's 16 months old and gorgeous.   :luv: Bumped into her today and she has to be kept on lead.  Apparently for the last couple of weeks, she has been limping on and off and has difficulty when getting up.  Apart from that she seems fine but sometimes hunches her back.  She and Toby are great friends and have enjoyed lots of puppy fun times together.  The vet is worried that she may have a hip problem and she is being x-rayed some time next week (I don't know why they aren't doing it this week  ).  It would be so sad if something is seriously wrong and Tobes would be sad if he couldn't run free with his little friend any more.  Please send positive thoughts for her.  Thanks.

Really hope its nothing serious  :luv:  But have to say, if she was my dog I would be getting her x-rayed sooner rather than later  :-\ ph34r

Absolutely and although I don't want to sound like a broken record (and I know everything isn't spinal) I would be asking them to check for disc problems too as arching the back can be a sign.  xx

Yes Sheryl, I thought of Lyla and the others and mentioned a possible disc problem.

poor Mabel - I agree I would be pushing for x-rays this week!  Maybe I'm just a pushy mum though  :lol2:

Also, just advise them that Jennie's x-rays only showed the calcification of her discs - that plus walking delayed the diagnosis of Jennie's slipped disc for 2 weeks.

I hope she is ok though  :-* :-*

I agree but I suppose if she at least mentions spinal problems to the vet they can check and rule it out if necessary.  How worrying for the owner, whatever is wrong...she is just a baby really :-\

I was thinking the same , I'd be asking about an MRI.

I would also push for x-rays asap - especially if she then needs a referral to a specalist  :bigarmhug:

I've mentioned COL to Mabel's owner loads of times and told him how much I have learned from it and how invaluable it is.  Because of the knowledge I have gained from here, if it were Toby I would practically be making the diagnosis myself and certainly pushing for x-rays and/or scans immediately.  Mabel's owner is probably at the stage I was at when I had a seriously ill dog over a year ago - very naive and trusting of my vet.  Indeed Sheryl, she is young so what is wrong with her.  She is insured so I really can't understand why there is a delay in getting x-rays done.  I just feel so upset about it, she's a gorgeous little girl  :luv:  I was giving her a big fuss today and she just looked up at me with "those" eyes.

Oh dear....it must be awful being so helpless.  You know what you would do but you cannot frogmarch people to the vet I guess!  I used to be the same with vets.  Now I just tell them what I want and how I want it.  I am sure the vets hate me.......I care not one jot!

Ditto xray and mri. My own vet said that he could have done the op himself but wouldn't have touched it without an mri first as you need to know where the damage and debris are if it is a disc. Sending good wishes from the very golden Jemima to the little golden Mabel. These gingers (as I call her!) are tough cookies!  :luv:
